RESPIRATORY NURSE We are looking for someone to join or Practice Team primarily to run clinics to offer support and care for patients with respiratory conditions or those wishing to stop smoking. The Nurse will be a good communicator, able to converse with patients in a professional and friendly manner, and able to communicate medical information so it is easily understood. In order to ensure that clinics are appropriately filled, good organisational skills are required which will involve liaison with the administration team in a timely fashion. Motivational skills will be necessary to support patients who wish to quit smoking. Additional training via Phoenix Service is available for the successful applicant. The Practice uses Systm1 computer system and information will be recorded by the Nurse into this within agreed protocols using and updating templates where appropriate. The Nurse would be responsible for identifying patients for call and recall and reviewing these patients, taking appropriate histories and recording information within agreed protocols. The Nurse will be responsible for arranging or carrying out spirometry and other testing as part of this package of care and providing advice on inhaler technique and general lifestyle for patients. Practice Nurse duties may include vaccinations and immunisations, cervical screening, blood pressure monitoring, dressings, suture removal, wound care in order to cover absences of others. The Practice is a research practice and an interest in this is desirable. This may involve recruiting patients to studies and monitoring conditions in line with given research project criteria in conjunction with a GP. In order to meet the needs of patients we anticipate that at least one clinic will extend to a Wednesday evening each week. Possible hours: Mon: 9-1 Wed: 11-1, 2 – 8 Thurs: 9 – 1 Fri: 2 – 6 These are subject to change and may be between 9.00 - 8.00 Monday and Wednesday or 9.00 – 6.30 on the remaining days, subject to room availability. Practice Manager ( administratively ) Nurse Team Leader ( daily ) b) Liaison with: All staff, patients, and other agencies as deemed necessary. Main tasks of job: Organise and run respiratory clinics within the Practice. Promote smoking cessation and other health promotion advice where appropriate. Support patients in maximising treatment for their condition. Assist in attaining QOF targets for all relevant patients. Work as part of a team to provide care to patients for a range of conditions or carry out preventative procedures. Any other relevant tasks within the scope of the position as requested.
