NZQA registered unit standard 20429 version 3 Page 1 of 3 Title Conduct an inspection of park infrastructure Level 4 Purpose Credits 4 This unit standard is for people working, or who intend to work, as park rangers in public and private parks and reserves. People credited with this unit standard are able to describe infrastructure inspection procedures, and complete infrastructure inspections, in accordance with organisational requirements. Classification Recreation and Sport > Parks and Reserves Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 All activities must comply with any policies, procedures, and requirements of the organisations involved; the ethical codes and standards relevant to professional bodies; and any relevant cultural, legislative, and/or regulatory requirements, which may include but are not limited to: Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975, Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, Conservation Act 1987, Reserves Act 1977, Building Act 2004, Local Government Act 2002, Public Works Act 1981, and their subsequent amendments and associated regulations. 2 Definitions A park area is publicly accessible land under the management of local government, the Department of Conservation, or a Trust. It may include land protected for scenic, scientific, recreational, historic, or cultural reasons; such as reserves, regional or national parks, protected private land, wildlife areas, marine mammal sanctuaries, conservation areas, or land held under the Local Government Act 2002. Park area infrastructure may include but is not limited to – assets, facilities, buildings, bridges, platforms, tracks, drains. Organisational requirements include the documented policies, procedures and methodologies of the organisation for which the work is being done. They include requirements documented in organisational and site health and safety plans, quality assurance documents, and contract work programmes. Evidence requirements 1.1 The park area infrastructure that requires inspection is identified. Range 1.2 may include but is not limited to – boardwalks, tracks, playgrounds, toilets, changing rooms, tables, seats, bridges, stiles, barriers, drains, platforms. The procedure for inspection is described for the park area infrastructure identified above. Range organisational audits, level of inspection (ie what requires an audit by an external assessor or engineer). 1.3 Components of the different facility inspection reports are described in accordance with organisational requirements for inspection evidence. 1.4 The consequences of non-compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, standards and/or guidelines are described. Outcome 2 Complete infrastructure inspections in accordance with organisational requirements. Range three different inspections are required. Evidence requirements 2.1 The inspection is carried out in accordance with organisational requirements. 2.2 Areas requiring remedial action are identified and reported in accordance with organisational requirements. 2.3 Organisational procedures for ensuring that remedial work is carried out are described. 2.4 Documentation is completed in accordance with organisational requirements.
