People credited with this unit standard are able to maintain knowledge of food or related product processing operations, and provide technical advice. This unit standard is seen as being applicable to trades or laboratory staff. Elements and performance criteria Element 1 Maintain knowledge of food or related product processing operations. Performance criteria 1.1 Technical and colleague networks are developed and maintained. Range 1.2 Opportunities to participate in trials and research projects are identified and actioned within organisational and personal constraints. Range 1.3 networks – peers, organisations; trades and/or technical. constraints – geographical, budgetary, time. Personal and company details on professional mailing lists and meeting invitation lists are current and details accurate. Range mailing lists – journals and/or publications and/or newsletters and/or seminar notification lists. 1.4 Technical information is recorded, filed, and available for future use. 1.5 Opportunities to maintain and expand technical knowledge are identified and actioned. Range 1.6 opportunities – seminars and/or projects and/or training courses and/or new legislation review. Maintenance of knowledge of food or related products processing technologies complies with organisational policies, procedures, and legislation. Range policies and procedures – work instructions and/or manuals and/or operating procedures and/or quality standards. Element 2 Provide technical advice. Performance criteria 2.1 Technical advice is based on current and valid analysis and research. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 7866 version 4 Page 3 of 3 2.2 Opportunities to improve product and workplace processes through application of technical knowledge are identified, and actioned with personnel authorised for implementing changes. 2.3 End users agree technical advice is conveyed in a language, and format that promote shared understanding and meaning. 2.4 Written material used to provide technical advice is clear, concise, and in agreed format for presentation. 2.5 Documentation related to provision of technical advice is accurate, complete, and complies with organisational procedures. 2.6 Colleagues agree responses, and types of information offered in response to requests for technical advice, optimise likelihood of workplace improvements. 2.7 Provision of technical advice complies with organisational policies, procedures, and legislation. Please note Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment. Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards. Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
