75th Anniversary – American Color Print Society Subject: Possible Art and Cultural article Celebrating the 75th Anniversary, The American Color Print Society The American Color print Society [ACPS] will be celebrating their 75th anniversary with their November 2014 OPEN EXHIBITION at the historic Plastic Club in Philadelphia: Sunday ,2 November through 26 November,2014. It will be a part of the Festivities, which should include balloons and dinner, t.V. , radio and print coverage, personages and an auction as well as other events in the planning. The Reception will be Sunday afternoon, at 2pm. We anticipate welcoming All to our party-reception, located at 247 South Camac Street., Philadelphia ,PA. The ACPS was founded in1939, in Philadelphia, its purpose to make acceptable the use of color in fine art prints. Prior to this, the reigning concept was that art prints should be Black and White, a traditional idea grown over time and historic preference ,as well as technical possibilities. Avant-garde artists met and determined to modernize the aesthetics of print-making : in 1940, 85 members of the Society had their exhibition at the Philadelphia Print Club, now the Print Center. The 75th exhibition of the Society, now a recognized national art organization, will celebrate with this exhibition at our long time Center City home-the historic Philadelphia Plastic Club . The Plastic Club, founded in 1897, responded to a then avant-garde idea: women could not join the exclusive male art clubs and so founded their own Plastic Art Club. The building of 1824 was purchased in 1909 and has been maintained by its now co-ed artists ever since and remains “home” to The American Color Print Society. There is an affinity between these two organizations: a desire to modernize, to alter an outdated status quo and thus enhance and be relevant to modern art aesthetics. The national ACPS continues to encourage experimentation and relevance in all aspects of Print making; color lithography, block printing, etching , intaglio , monotype, and digital printing, as well as a combination of these technique and collage. There is experimentation with color use, chemicals, materials, and the myriad of possible combinations, as will be amply demonstrated. The American Color Print society is professionally recognized, with historic its files maintained in the Philadelphia Historic Society. ACPS has remained a National dedicated organization of Print Artists, older and younger reflecting with their Art their individual world view. Renown members have included: Mildred Dillon, Stella Drabkin, Marlene Adler, Thelma Grobes ,Elizabeth MacDonald and Michael Kuncevich, Victor Lasuchin, Ron Wyffels, Toni Rosati and Jack Gerber, to mention a selected few.
