Online Transition Seminar Series Taught by the Transition Coalition, University of Kansas, www.transitioncoalition.org Sponsored by the Vermont Department of Education, Special Education The Transition Coalition will offer 5 online transition seminars (short courses) designed to provide novice and veteran education professionals the tools and collaboration necessary to improve transition planning and services for students with disabilities. Each seminar includes four week-long sessions with research-based articles, websites, videos, and discussions. Introduction to Transition Education and Services, October 26 – November 20, 2009 Transition Assessment, January 11 – February 5, 2010 Family Involvement and Student Involvement in Transition, March 1 – 19, 2010 Preparing Students for Employment/Postsecondary Education, March 22 – April 16, 2010 Interagency Collaboration during Transition Planning, May 10 – June 4, 2010 Eligible Participants The seminar series is open to secondary-level special education teachers, transition coordinators, directors of special education, adult service providers, parents and other professionals in Vermont who have direct involvement with high school students with disabilities. Credit Each seminar awards 15 hours of Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) from the University of Kansas. Eligible participants may also enroll in 1 hour of graduate credit. Scholarships Applicants who are secondary special educators or VR counselors working in public high school with transition-aged youth (ages 16-21) are eligible for a scholarship from the Vermont Department of Education to cover the cost of CEUs for all five seminars if they satisfactorily complete the previous seminar. Other eligible participants may enroll for $300 per seminar, paid directly to the University of Kansas. Time Commitment The seminars are taught to a cohort of professionals in Vermont who agree to complete all five seminars over eight months. While the seminars are offered online and asynchronous, participants will be expected to post comments on biweekly discussion boards and complete assignments by predetermined dates. Most participants spend 10 hours per week completing seminar requirements.
