JANUARY 18, 2009 SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME “ A Message From Our Pastor” Dear friends— Many thanks to all those who worked so hard to make our Epiphany celebration such a wonderful success. I believe that we had over 400 people at dinner and at the celebration. I want to thank Bonnie Gleason and all her fantastic musicians. Thanks too to Sharon Weidenaar for her help with the costumes; to our office staff for coordinating the rehearsals, the food, and the set up and cleanup, and our young people for helping to serve the food. We had so many people—young and older-- who took parts in the celebration and brought it to life. Thanks in a special way to those who attended. So many of you who were there give a great deal of your time and effort to help our parish function day to day. We are most grateful for that help and I hope this celebration is a small way to say thanks for all that you do. This Sunday and next Saturday many of our children will be taking part in their First Penance. In May these children will receive Holy Communion for the first time. It is a wonderful privilege for me to be a part of these two sacramental celebrations. I am so grateful to our volunteer teachers who help to prepare the children and to the family members of these children. We ask these individuals to teach these children about the important role faith and religion can play in a person’s life. We ask them to be teachers of these children in word and also by good example. It can be very difficult to grow up in today’s world and make good choices and decisions. So many of the issues we face today are so complex. There are tremendous demands on our time these days, and if we are not careful, then religion can often take a “back seat” to so many other activities of life. I truly feel that faith is the greatest possession I have. I can’t imagine facing life without it. The greatest gift we can give to any child is that gift of faith and good example. As we pray for our young people as they receive another Sacrament this week, let us also pray that God will help each one of us lead these children to God by the example of our lives. Remember, God is counting on each one of us. Fr.
