THE TURKISH SOCIETY OF TOXICOLOGY The Turkish Society of Toxicology (TST) was founded in 1987 by 14 talented and dedicated toxicologists from academia to promote the advancement and enlargement of toxicology in Turkey. The membership has climbed steadily from the original 14 to over 100 members representing mostly academia, but also government and industry. The main objectives of the society include: (1) to inform the authorities concerning the scientific problems of toxicology in general, (2) to prepare training programs and workshops for educating the public about the potentially harmful effects of chemicals on the environment and human health, and (3) to foster national and international scientific cooperation between toxicologists. Members of the Turkish Society of Toxicology have close contact in both research and education with toxicologists from other countries. Many members of the society take part on advisory boards of health, agriculture and environment related commissions of the Turkish government. TST became a member of EUROTOX in 1989 and IUTOX in 1998.
