HEALTH HAZARD DATA ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Route of Entry: Inhalation: Yes Skin: Yes Ingestion: Yes Health Hazards (Acute and Chronic): Skin: May cause dermatitis. Coal tar is a phototoxic substance which in the presence of sunlight will cause a skin reaction similar to sunburn. Eyes: Will irritate eyes. Tearing, redness and swelling may occur. Prolonged use may cause damage to eyes. Ingestion: Causes gastrointestinal irritation, nausea and vomiting. Inhalation: Spray mist can irritate respiratory tract. Prolonged exposure to airborne mist could cause respiratory difficulty. Carcinogenicity: This product contains refined coal tar. (ARC Monongraphs-Volume 35 - states that there is sufficient evidence that coal tar itches are carcinogenic in humans. Additionally, there is sufficient evidence that occupational exposure to coal tars as it occurs during the destructive distillation of coal (coking) is casually associated wit the occurrence of skin cancers in humans. NOTE: Many of the original determinations as to the classification of coal tar as a carcinogen were based on HOT LIQUID products such as roofing tar. A separate determination on cold applied water based coal tar sealers has not been undertaken. Conditions Aggravated by Exposure: Persons with a history of liver, skin or respiratory disease are at a greater than normal risk of developing health effects. Emergency/First Aid Procedures: Eyes: Flush eyes immediately with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Skin: Flush with water to remove product. Remove any residual material with waterless hand cleaner. Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Give oxygen, if needed. Ingestion: Induce vomiting. Give water and get medical attention immediately. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SECTION VII. PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Spill Response: Soak up with inert material. Place in waste container. Large spills - contain and remove all sources of ignition. Wear full protective gear. Waste Disposal: Dispatch to approved waste disposal facility. Comply with all Local, State and Federal regulations. Handling/Storage: Keep containers closed when not in use. Keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Other Precautions: KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SECTION VIII. CONTROL MEASURES -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Respiratory Protection: Use NIOSH approved respirator when the exposure limits exceed the TLV Limits. Ventilation: Mechanical (General), if TLV is exceeded. Other Protective Equipment: Chemical resistant gloves. Chemical goggles. Emergency shower, eye wash station.
