Kutztown University Staff Apartment Pet Guidelines From Lorie Davis The following guidelines serve as a reference point for establishing a consistent policy granting exceptions to the no-pet in staff apartment policy. The Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life for Hall Operations must make approval of pets in the resident hall apartments. Notification The Associate Director for Hall operations must be notified prior to moving in or if the staff member is thinking of having a pet. Pets possibly permitted The following pets are possibly permitted: CATS/DOGS 1. Graduate Resident Directors may only have one cat per apartment. 2. Residence Coordinators and Central Staff have a choice of one cat or one dog per apartment. If a dog is chosen them there must be a private entrance to the apartment. 3. Proof of up- to- date shots for either cat or dog. 4. Proof of cat or dog (12 months or older) being spayed or neutered. 5. The dog, at adult size, must be no taller than 24" (Springer Spaniel size). 6. The dog must be license in Berks County. 7. Cats must be strictly indoors and not roam outside the apartment. 8. Cats need to be declawed at 6 months. 9. All waste must be put into a plastic bag and disposed in the outside trash containers located in the loading zone. 10. Owner is responsible for any damage caused by the cat/dog in the apartment. BIRDS 1. Must be no larger than a cock-a-too 2. No limit on the number unless privacy or health standards are violated. FISH 1. No larger than a 25 gallon tank HEALTH AND SANITARY STANDARDS These standards must be maintained and observed at all times in the on campus apartments, as well as the entire university property.
