Museums and galleries in Skåne
Skåne is one of Sweden’s largest centres for pictorial art. It hosts plenty of
internationally and nationally renowned institutions as well as a variety of
galleries with focus on contemporary art. A number of well-attended art tours
across the region are arranged each year.
The numerous museums (about 400) and galleries throughout the region are testament to
Skåne’s ongoing focus on art and culture. Many galleries and museums are situated in
beautiful surroundings.

MALMÖ
Museums in Malmö – the capital of Skåne and Sweden’s third largest city:
The Science and Maritime Museum is a dream come true for tech buffs, with old and new
cars, a flight simulator, trams, ferries, a submarine and much more. www.malmo.se/museer
Moderna Museet is one of Europe’s leading museums of modern and contemporary
art, with a collection of high international standing and its main museum in Sweden’s capital
Stockholm. An inquiry came from the City of Malmö, asking Moderna Museet to open a
subsidiary in the building on Gasverksgatan 22. Malmö now has one of the most beautiful
exhibition spaces in Sweden. In a unique collaboration with the City of Malmö, Region Skåne
and the Swedish government, Moderna Museet Malmö was inaugurated on December 26,

Malmö Art Museum at Malmö Castle hosts Scandinavia’s largest collection of Nordic,
contemporary art and a comprehensive collection of furniture and Scanian craft and design.

Malmö Art Gallery (Malmö Konsthall) is one of Scandinavia’s largest exhibition halls for
contemporary, international art. The building is in itself a work of art, with the ceiling
constructed as a latticework of 550 domes with natural and artificial light source.

Cirkulationscentralen is an artist-run studio gallery exhibiting the work of the 14 members

Johan Berggren Gallery was formed in April 2009. The aim of the gallery is to present
Scandinavian artists in an international context and to introduce an international group of

Galleri Leger mainly focuses on contemporary, Nordic paintings, sculpture and graphic

Galleri PingPong is a private gallery exhibiting young Swedish artists educated at the

HELSINGBORG
Dunkers Kulturhus., Helsingborg. With an art gallery, exhibitions about the town and its
cultural history, music, theatre, youth culture, ship, information centre, restaurant and
bistro, the Dunkers art centre has something for everyone. There are numerous
opportunities to paint, write, build or take part in exhibitions in a number of other ways.
Situated in central Helsingborg with views over Öresund, this beautiful building is the

LUND
Museum of Sketches is an art museum at Lund University, dedicated to the collection
and display of cartoons and sketches of contemporary monumental and public art, such as
frescos, sculpture and reliefs. The museum contains about 25,000 items, including sketches
and contest entries by leading 20th century Swedish artists www.adk.lu.se
Kulturen, Lund is the largest museum in Skåne and the second oldest open-air museum in
the world, founded in 1892. There are now more than thirty buildings, moved and re-erected
here, occupying two blocks of the city, showing how people have lived and worked in

YSTAD-ÖSTERLEN
Ystad Konstmuseum exhibits paintings, sculptures and graphics. The collection consists
mainly of southern Swedish and Danish art from the 19th century to the present.

Kivik Art Centre is a new art institution set in beautiful natural surroundings features
architectural sculptures specially create for this unique setting. Over time, the project will

Gallery Neon in Brösarp works with fusions and meetings between art forms, people, the

NORTH EAST SKÅNE
The Regional Museum, Kristianstad was founded in 1957 with a regional knowledge
bank, a resource centre that is responsible for the regions cultural heritage. Through
exhibitions, educational activities and various programs the historical heritage of the region
is depicted. The Fikm Museum and The Art museum in Kristianstad are in the same building.

Gallery Pictor, Munka Ljungby aims to awaken international interest to art in Skåne by

Wanås, a castle dating back to the 15th century in located in the northern part of Skåne.
The spectacular sculpture park features art created in situ by leading international artists. A
barn built in 1823, houses a gallery with altering exhibitions of international contemporary
art. This year Yoko Ono will be one of the artists attending.
