There is a three tier structure for counselor positions; Lead Counselor, Senior Counselor and Counselor
All counselors should have the following:
Desired Qualifications:
Current CPR certification
Ability and desire to work with children outdoors
Ability to relate to one’s peer group
Ability to accept guidance and supervision
Ability to assist in teaching an activity
Good character, integrity, and ability to adapt to program setting
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
College or High School age students, or equivalent
Responsible To:
Recreation Director, Recreation Assistant, Recreation Commissioners, Summer Program
Director, and Assistant Summer Director
Specific Responsibilities:
Learn the likes/dislikes of each participant
Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in the group
Carry out established guidelines in enforcing program safety regulations
Assist in teaching or leading an activity
Be available all weeks of the program, July 7 th
– August 15 th
; Monday –Friday;
8:30am – 12:30pm
Be present for all mandatory training /orientation days; June 24 th . Assist with setting up and cleaning up for all activities
Oversee the safety of the children participating in the program
CPR Certified (Recreation Department to offer a certification program – if not able to go on the date offered staff is required to become certified on their own)
Lead Counselor - Lead Counselor has had previous experience working with children in a similar camp/recreation environment. They will be required to check children in and out each day, work with Specialty Directors in coordinating their group activities, supervising other counselors in their group, and be responsible for overseeing their entire group. To record and report any injury and behavioral incident to the Summer Program Director and Assistant Director.
Assist in maintaining open lines of communications between the participants, parents, Program
Director, and Recreation Director.
Senior Counselor - Counselor works directly with the Lead counselor in assisting with daily activities of his/her assigned group, and has previous experience working and supervising children.
Counselor - Works directly with Lead Counselor and other counselors of their assigned group.

Current CPR certification
At least one season of a playground/camp experience
Ability to plan, set-up and teach skills to staff and children
Ability to supervise staff, plan, organize and make daily project plans, and order supplies and equipment
Desire and ability to work with children
Ability to accept guidance and supervision
Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control
Responsible To:
Director of Recreation
Recreation Assistant
Recreation Commissioners
Summer Program Director
Assistant Summer Program Director
General Responsibility:
To plan, direct, and supervise arts program including but not limited to, crafts, arts, jewelry, ceramics, and plan and organize with the other Coordinators for all special events
Specific Responsibility:
Available to work June – mid- August, hours vary as needed
Be present for all mandatory training /orientation days
Assist in coordination of entertainers/educators
Daily set up and final clean-up of arts area
Teach staff their responsibilities in activities during staff training
Teach and monitor proper use of equipment
If other staff utilizing supplies, create check-out and return system
Conduct initial and end of season inventory
Assist Inside Play/Special Events Director with projects
Submit orders through Summer Program Director as needed, keeping budget in mind, and ensuring timely arrival of materials
Final evaluations and recommendations of program success and future improvements
