Guidance Notes for Placement Report The following guidance notes contain specifications for various parts of the project which are intended to give you guidance on how to answer the various questions posed in each section of the report. Project Aim and Objectives Cumbernauld College has identified the need for vocational qualifications of young members of the local community and in order to overcome the increasing risk of youngsters not entering education, employment or training programmes the College is aiming to help those trainees find an educational path through this football mobility project. The College also recognises the need for all young people to have access to a range of enhanced learning opportunities, including the possibility of participating in an International experience. We believe that this mobility project and the opportunity to live in a different European setting is an excellent vehicle for learning, develop citizenship through sport, foster intercultural awareness and promote language learning and the basis for progression into further education and training/employment. This project has been designed to improve the acquisition of vocational and professional skills and to provide the participants with the opportunity to gain a recognised academic qualification whilst receiving football coaching. At the same time, this Leonardo da Vinci mobility project will be designed to enhance the motivation, as well as supplementing the skill base of the participants. To achieve those aims, the programme will utilise only short 2 week periods of training experience in an EU partner country. France, Italy and Malta and the content of the placement will aim to cover the following areas: Overall content of the Project: Improve their football skills. Meet individual needs, including life, core, intercultural skills. Provide a vocational back-up system. Specific Content: • • • • • Fooball Development sessions. Introduction to different European fooball coaching and training methods. Level 1 Certificate in Exercise Studies (Health for Life Award). Level 2 Certificate in Improving Personal Exercise and Nutrition. (Health for Life Award) This is an introduction to helping to improve general health, fitness and lifestyle. • Foreign (European) Language tuition. • Cultural and geographical sessions. • Becoming a volunteer for North Lanarkshire. Project Number: UK/11/LLP-LdV/IVT/163250 Project Recruitment Strategy Prior to selection process the College will carry out a series of informal promotional activities such as College's Freshers Week and Diversity Week. In addition, the College will also carry out more formal information events to allow potential participants to fully understand what a Leonardo da Vinci Mobility entails and the commitment required from them. Taking into consideration the needs of each group, it is envisaged that all participants enrolled in the NQ Football Performance Course and that are interested in applying for a place on this football project, will undertake an ILM Team building qualification. North Lanarkshire Council group will also attend a more informal set of team building sessions, since we believe it is important for the groups to get together, to get to know each other and to bond as a group and, most importantly, to fully understand what a mobility project involves. The participants will then complete an initial application form with a statement expressing their willingness to take part. A specific participant selection, via an interview process, will be designed mainly by the sending partner and Cumbernauld College. The selection criteria for this project will be entirely based on the needs of the prospective participants and will not be based on academic achievement or attaintment. Consequently, the interview and final selection will focus on the partcipants age, social background and difficulties, attitude – this is the way in which the individual has been behaving prior to and during the preparatory phase of the project. It will help us to consider those who show motivation since this serves as an insight into how they may behave while they are on placement. Finally, attendance will be examined as part of the selection process – monitoring of attendance and commitment to their training and courses will give an indication to the tutors of how much interest they have and how they will behave abroad. All successful participants and their parents or guardians will be invited to an evening information event to provide everyone with further details about the project, the host country and practical arrangements. Finally, the participants will start their placement preparation and induction sessions will also be incorporated. Project Number: UK/11/LLP-LdV/IVT/163250 Project Pedagogical Preparation Strategy Once participants have been selected Cumbernauld College will organise an induction session, where all Leonardo da Vinci forms will be completed such as application forms and medical consent forms. In addition, the participants will be enrolling in vocational qualifications (Health for Life, Sports Awards) and during this induction meeting the participants will also complete all the relevant College forms. Moreover, the participants will also be given a breakdown of dates or timetable showing when the LDV preparation sessions will be held to facilitate work schedules. Each participant is handed their training manuals and work books. Finally, students will also receive more practical and pre-departure briefings or sessions with a parents event night where information about travel arrangements, insurance, medical cards and emergency number will be handed to all the participants involved. Project Cultural Preparation Strategy Linguistic preparation will involve ten sessions of two hour based at the College. The linguistic content for these sessions will be tailored to the needs of the participants. For many of them learning a foreign language can be a daunting experience, and although the sessions will take place in a formal environment, the College will ensure that the methods used for these seesions are relaxed and enjoyable for the target group. The content will be connected to their placement and will incorporate vocabulary, role play situations and language specific to football, safety, and different scenarios to help them to get by abroad. Project Linguistic Preparation Strategy In addition to the linguitsic prepartion, participants will also receive a number of cultural sessions. The content will include: informative DVDs about the host country, handling foreign currency and research projects using internet about particular aspects of the country. These sessions are of great benefit to the participants since it will help them to understand the different traditions of other countries and will promote the learning of valuable intercultural and citizenship skills for the target group. As an example of cultural preparation of a previous Leoanrdo mobility project, students designed a “tourist brochure” about the host country with sections that included emergency telephone numbers and maps of the city centre. The marketing department of the College was able to print the booklet and this become a valuable tool for the group when they travelled.
