CHNOPS ACTIVITY: PROCEDURE
1. To determine the trait for GENE A of your CHNOPS, fill in the information in the
box labeled GENE A in the data table. Notice the sequence of nitrogen bases in
DNA. On the line provided, write the sequence of nitrogen bases of mRNA
(codons) that are complementary to the DNA.
2. Next write out the sequence of amino acids (you’ll need to use your chart).
Remember...CODONS ONLY!!!
3. In order to determine the trait for you CHNOPS, you need to match your amino
acid sequence with the correct trait in Figure 1. Write the trait on the line
provided.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the remaining genes (B-F).
5. For Gene G, create your own DNA sequence, mRNA, amino acids, and trait.
6. Using all of the inherited traits, sketch your CHNOPS.
