It is located along the Delaware River. The founder of Philadelphia was William Penn. It has many places of interests. Tourists are mainly attracted by these sights: The Liberty Bell (1) is a symbol of American independence. It is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formerly it was placed in the steeple (a small towner) of the building which is now known as Independence Hall. It was bought from a London firm in 1752. It originally cracked when rang after its arrival in Philadelpia, and was repaired by local workmen twice. It cracked again while ringing after the death of Chief Justice John Marshall in 1835. People believe it was one of the bells rung to mark the reading of the Decleration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The building behind the building is the Independence Hall. It is situated on Chestnut Street. It became the principal meeting place of the Second Continental Congress from 1775 to 1783. The building is part of the Independence National Historical Park and is listed as a World Heritage Site. On October 26, 1918, Tomas Masaryk proclaimed the independence of Czechoslovakia on the steps of Independence Hall. Independence Hall is pictured on the back of the US 100 dollar bill.
