EVALUATION OF LANGUAGE – TLC-E An assessment of receptive and expressive language skills was conducted. The following is a summary of the test results. The Test of Language Competence- Expanded Edition Level 1 or Level 2 (TLC-E) is a norm-referenced test designed to evaluate delays in the emergence of linguistic competence and in the use of semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic language strategies. Ambiguous Sentences Percentile: Standard Score: This subtest evaluates the ability to recognize and interpret the alternative meanings of selected lexical and structural ambiguities. Making Inferences Percentile: Standard Score: This subtest evaluates the ability to make permissible inferences on the basis of existing causal relationships or chains in short paragraphs. Recreating Sentences Percentile: Standard Score: This subtest of Level 1 evaluates the ability to plan and formulate expressions of intent (speech acts) incorporating key words related to a situation or context. At Level 2, this subtest evaluates the ability to formulate propositions in grammatically complete sentences, using key words from the context of a given situation. Figurative Language Percentile: Standard Score: The Level 1 subtest evaluates the emerging ability to interpret figurative expressions (idioms and metaphors) and to match the expressions with pictures depicting their meanings. The Level 2 subtest evaluates the ability to interpret metaphoric expressions and to match structurally related metaphoric expressions by shared meaning.
