POSITION: DEPARTMENT: REPORTS TO: PHI LEVEL: FTE: STATUS: Psychiatrist Medical Medical Director 4 (Total Access-Create/Delete) 40% Part Time (16 hours per week) Salaried, Exempt Position Summary: The Psychiatrist provides mental health clinical services to adults, children and their families with mental health issues, including psychiatric diagnosis, prescription writing, and psychotherapy as part of a full service treatment team. Services may include: evaluation, assessment, crisis intervention, plans development, case management, therapy, after-care planning and rehabilitation planning. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Provides culturally competent mental health care in a community health clinic serving American Indian/Alaska Native and other low-income populations. 2. Provide direct psychiatric services through comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients, including prescribing and administering medications. 3. Diagnosis and treatment of children, adolescents and adults with behavioral, emotional and/or mental disorders. 4. Participate in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) conferencing to coordinate client treatment plans with internal and external sources. 5. Prescribes changes in treatment approaches when necessary when necessary. 6. Coordinate psychiatric care and medication management with appropriate therapeutic care. 7. Ability to chart and bill using the current billing system. Perform documentation of treatment sessions using standardized, best practices in the field. 8. Write necessary report and letters on client’s behalf. 9. Make referral to appropriate subspecialties as required for wrap-around patient care. 10. Obtains and evaluates data. Complete necessary medical records and reports. 11. Supervise the treatment plans of psychiatric patient panel. 12. Participate in quality assurance, educational, and professional committees as assigned. 13. Serves as psychiatric consultant to behavioral health and medical providers. 14. Prescribes and evaluates effectiveness of a wide range of therapeutic measures 15. Provide medical management for alcohol and drug detox protocols 16. Provide appropriate counseling and referral for alcohol and drug addiction and dependence. 17. Prescribe buprenorphine therapy as appropriate. 18. Other duties as assigned by the Medical Director. Minimum Qualifications: Doctorates degree in Medicine or Osteopathy from an accredited institution. 4+ years of clinical experience in a clinic environment with completion of psychiatric residency. Hold & maintain current, valid & unrestricted professional license to practice and prescribe (DEA License) in the State of California. Must meet necessary requirements for malpractice and general liability insurance. Must successfully complete the provider credentialing process in accordance with National Accreditation standards. Knowledge of theory and treatment practices of intrapsychic, interpersonal and social problems; community mental health, and alcohol and other drug abuse interventions. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills. Able to communicate effectively with staff, community and the general public. Understanding of California mandated reporting laws. Knowledge of general mental health services and California State Rehabilitation Mental Health Option services is helpful. Knowledge of & ability to relate to the American Indian community and other minority populations. Dedication and commitment to providing care in underserved and underrepresented communities. Understands and promotes the mission, vision and values of the health center both in the work place and in the community. Compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations, as they pertain to position including; Scope of Practice, HIPAA, sexual harassment, CPR, OSHA etc. This position may be grant funded, continued employment is contingent upon renewed or additional funding and may be discontinued at the close of the grant cycle.
