For the guidance and support of employees the following information has been published on DNET:


Minimum and Maximum Participant Numbers:
To ensure that demand for the workshops is viable, the minimum number of participants needs to be 6 employees. The maximum number is 11 employees
owing to the number of lap-top computers in the training room.
The internal re-charge costs for the workshops will be: £60 per employee for a full one day course.
 A cost centre code needs to be recorded at the point of enrolment to enable accurate re-charges to be undertaken.
Different courses are offered to meet a variety of learning needs: The Introductory level courses assume you have no existing prior knowledge of using the software but are computer literate i.e. can use a mouse and
input data.
 The Intermediate level courses assume employees have a working knowledge of skills taught on the introductory level but need to learn more
functionality.
 The Advanced level courses assume that you have a good knowledge of content covered on the introductory and intermediate levels.
Checking the course outlines should assist an employee and their Manager to ascertain learning needs at work. It is recommended that a Training
Needs Analysis (TNA) is undertaken before applying for a place on a course. This will ensure that the course content meets your learning needs. Course
outlines are published on this DNet link: http://dnet/working_for_us/Learning_and_Development/microsoft_office_training/course_outlines/default.asp

Leadership, Management and Supervisory Development
The Derbyshire Manager: Autumn Workshops
The Derbyshire Manager support activity is presented within three themes.
Achieve & sustain
extraordinary
outcomes
Use the best in you
Bring out the best in others
Theme: Use the best in you. Develops self-awareness and focuses on the personal skills, knowledge and behaviours that enable effective
management.
Theme: Bring out the best in others. Concentrates on effective working relationships with people both within and external to DCC.
Theme: Achieve and sustain extraordinary outcomes: This is about understanding the business, where the organisation is going and our
individual role within that.
In other words it aims to help develop personal skills and abilities to help the organisation achieve its strategic goals and do that by working
effectively with others inside and outside of the organisation.
The sessions (a mix of “energisers”/workshops) will take place in Buxton, Ilkeston and Alfreton at 2 levels. One set for first line management,
and one for middle managers. These are short, fast paced and practical, leaving you with useful tools to take back into the workplace. They
are run in no particular order and you don’t need to attend all four.
D:\106747759.Doc
Version 1.4
Theme: Use the best in you.
Extraordinary You
This session will help you to identify what affects the influence you have on others. It introduces three specific areas for you to focus on and
helps you to identity some practical changes that could make a real difference to your working relationships.
Theme: Bring out the best in others.
Make Your Mark
This session gives you the opportunity to think about your role in creating a productive and energetic team environment. It lets you step back
and consider how your team is seen by others, then delve a little deeper to take an honest look at positive and negative aspects of team
behaviour. How can you make your mark and strengthen the positive aspects of team culture and raise team performance?
Conversations That Matter
This session looks to help you to strengthen your communication toolkit and confidence in a variety of work situations. It recognises the
important role communication plays when engaging others, both internal and external, in changes to services and working arrangements.
Theme: Achieve & sustain extraordinary outcomes.
Money Matters (3 hours)
Money Matters is designed to give you greater confidence to manage budgets and to spark ideas for further savings.
In particular, you will consider:
 Considerations for getting value for money
 The overall budget process within the authority – where the money comes from; where it goes and the part you can play
 How you make spending decisions
 How you set, monitor and control your budget
 How to involve your team in playing their part, both in remaining within the current budget and in providing ideas for future cost savings
Everyone needs to play their part in managing the finances. That’s why Money Matters.
To book a place on these workshops, follow your departmental learning and development application process. For more information contact

Everyone has a role to play in helping Derbyshire County Council deliver its Environmental Policy and achieve its targets. Good
environmental management improves efficiency, reduces wastage and saves money.
DCC must reduce its carbon emissions by 25% by March 2015. As this reduction is divided between Council departments, you need to know
how you fit in.
This workshop gives you an introduction to the Derbyshire Climate Change Charter, what it means and what the council is doing to tackle
carbon emissions. You will also discuss improvement ideas for DCC, and look at ways you can get involved in reducing emissions and
saving money, both for your department and a home.
Feedback from recent courses included:
“Really interesting & well delivered.”
“I will now remember to do the little things, and also explore the bigger impacts of my role.”
“I’ll go back to my team to encourage environmental awareness.”
“I will take ideas back to the team & look at how the department can work towards meeting their targets.”
This session is open to all Members and employees from all parts of the council, regardless of job type or grade. Fully funded so no cost to
departments.

Women’s Lives
A free course in Matlock starting in September 2015
Run in partnership between Derbyshire County Council and UNISON
Women’s Lives is a women only course designed to build your confidence as well as help you to develop your study skills. It is exciting and
fun as well as being challenging!
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
Women’s Lives is for women of all ages and from all walks of life who would like to take up new learning opportunities. The course is being
paid for by UNISON and is offered to all Derbyshire County Council employees as part of a partnership agreement.
HOW WILL THE COURSE HELP ME?
The Women’s Lives course will help to increase your confidence and self-esteem as you develop new skills and brush up on old ones.
You’ll find that the course not only helps you in your job but also outside work with participating in group activities, helping the
kids/grandchildren with homework, making yourself heard and finding new opportunities.
The course will help you to:
i) Develop Study Skills – get into the swing of following a course of study. This will include reading and understanding texts, note
taking, writing, research skills and being better able to analyse things.
ii) Develop your understanding of issues which relate to women – culture, tradition, opportunities (or lack of them), expectations,
hopes and fears.
iii) Enjoy studying with a group of like minded women. In the study sessions you will discuss and debate a variety of topics. The
sessions are run in a relaxed and informal way and you will have the opportunity to share experiences. No-one will be put on the
spot or made to feel uncomfortable.
During the course you will be Studying Women’s Experiences, Exploring Images of Women and choosing a topic of your own to investigate.
There are no tests or exams.
