1. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will cover the different sociological perspectives as it deals with culture, family, groups,
deviance, stratification, gender, family and sexual behavior. The course will provide the student with
tools to understand the behavior of society through different sociological perspectives. It would also
give a brief understanding on how sociologists do research to get information about a specific social
group. The student will come out of the course with a better grasp of culture and its infinite variations.
As a result of this knowledge we hope to have individuals aware of diversity, respectful of other
peoples´ way of doing things, fully aware of their own background and heritage and with the kind of
intellectual tolerance to other peoples´ ideas so needed at present.
We will start with the basic explanation about sociology and the different perspectives; the ways to
conduct research and the study of culture and socialization. The course will study groups and
organizations and social deviance; also we will go through social classes and mobility, gender, family,
marriage and at the end we will cover sexual behavior.

6. METHODOLOGY
At the beginning of the course each student is given a copy of the syllabus so he or she can follow the
daily readings. During the first week of class, each student chooses the topics that he or she will
present as oral presentation assignments. In each class, after the explanation about the day’s topic is
given, we proceed with an exchange of questions and answers between the students and the
professor. Sometimes audio visual projections are arranged by the students at specific dates.
