THE SERPICO STAR Edition 10 October 26 – 30TH I hope everyone had a nice and relaxing fall break. Mine was nice but definitely not relaxing! (my husband had surgery……need I say more?). I did take advantage of the time I had and made a few classroom changes. The first change that I am making is with our class behavior plan. I am no longer going to use Class Dojo. Instead, I will be going back to the good old “mark” system. Students will keep a weekly behavior chart on their desks where they will record any poor choices that they make during the week. These charts will come home every Friday attached to the yellow sign and return sheet. (Please do NOT remove these forms from the yellow paper). As before, I will continue to reward those students who make good choices and consequences will be given to those who do not. Another change that I am making involves the Weekly Agenda Sheets. After speaking to many of the parents during conferences, who shared that you would like to see more written down than just the assignments (and I agree 100%!), students are now going to be required to fill their daily agenda sheets exactly as it appears on the board. In the past I have always required the students to get these signed each night. I have decided that I am not going to do that this year. I would, however, like for parents to ask to see these periodically. I want to remind parents to check out the “Calendar” tab on my teacher web page (located on the North Grove web page). I post important events/due dates on this calendar weekly. We will be celebrating RED RIBBON WEEK from Monday, October 26th-Friday, October 30th. Lots of fun events have been planned. The entire school will be collecting “Dimes for Duxo.” Duxo is our Center Grove K-9 dog and his job is to inspect schools and to make sure they are safe and drug free. All funds raised will be used to help purchase a police vest for Duxo. We will also have RED RIBBON SPIRIT DAYS as well: Monday – Wear RED to kick off Red Ribbon week. Tuesday- Too Bright for Drugs – wear your brightest clothes Wednesday- Sock it to Drugs – wear your crazy mixed-up socks Thursday – Follow your Dreams, Don’t Do Drugs! – Wear your pajamas Friday-Team up Against Drugs - Wear your favorite sports team apparel. With the store shelves massively stocked for Halloween, I think that this would be a perfect time to put out a request for donations of individually wrapped candy. (Not for me - I like to reward students for making good choices ). HERE’S WHAT IS GOING ON IN ROOM 26 THIS WEEK: Communications: Test over the states and capitals of the West Region will be this Thursday. Students need to know the correct spelling of the state, its capital and the state abbreviation, as well as be able to locate it on a map.
