Mystery Novel Unit Directions: The literature circle groups will meet four times to discuss each section of the book. In order to keep up on the reading assignments, you will need to take the literature circle book home to read. For the group meetings, you are to be prepared to discuss the assigned section of the book. Also, you are to have the assignment completed for each of these meetings. Evaluation: Book assignments for the four sections will change each week and will be different, depending on the novel you are reading. (5 pts.) Sticky notes will be given to you, so that you can mark the passages you’ve chosen to discuss. Each meeting is worth a total of 6 points. Students that do not have their books will be given a zero for that discussion. Points can be made up by completing a short summary of each of the chapters that were covered at the meeting. * Your book can be brought home to read, but it must be brought to class every day. Assignment #1 Determining Main Problem/Conflict Three Times Lucky & Jeremy Fink Write a paragraph on the main conflict or problem of the story. You must make inferences about the characters and the plot events for the 1st section of your literature circle novel. Provide evidence of your thinking from your literature circle novel including the page numbers (p. 23). Your response is to be written on the given note card. The Clearing, The Night Gardener, Trash, Dancing on the Edge, & Time Windows Identify the main conflict in your literature circle novel for the 1 st section using textual evidence. Then, determine what events might be foreshadowing future occurrences in the novel. Provide textual evidence including the page number (p. 23). Your response is to be written in one paragraph on a given note card. *Groups will meet for the 1st time next week.
