2. Relationship to mission and strategic plan of institution, and/or college and department
goals and objectives:
These are new courses that meet the curricular needs of the department. In particular, the
courses on Islamic history and Public History (336, 202) help the department satisfy the
diversity and global education objectives of the university. History 255 is a new seminar style
course geared towards introducing first semester freshman to historical investigation.

3. Rationale:
The department has worked to increase the diversity of courses offered in all fields of
history, to expand the lower-level course offerings and to streamline the unique requirements.
4. Cost Implications: Courses are offered as part of the instructors’ regular course rotation and
incurs no additional costs.
