MOVEMENT SCIENCE, SPORT AND LEISURE STUDIES MAJORS’ CLUB CONSTITUTION Article I Name: Section 1: This organization shall be known as the Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies Majors’ (MSSLS) Club. Article II Purpose: Section 1: The purpose of the club shall be to provide professional, social and community service experiences relating to Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies through activities occurring both on and off campus. The club officers and its members will be responsible for initiating and organizing such events. Article III Membership: Section 1: Section 2: Membership shall be open to all full-time and part-time undergraduate students at Westfield State University who have paid their student activities fee for the current academic semester. Members are considered to be active if they attend and participate in a minimum of fifty percent (50%) of all club meetings and activities. Article IV Officers: Section 1: Section 2: The Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies Majors’ Club will have seven (7) officers. Officers will include two (2) Co-Presidents, two (2) Co-Vice Presidents, two (2) Co-Treasurers and one (1) Administrative Assistant. The Co-Presidents shall call and preside over all meetings. They shall appoint all committee members, subject to the majority consent of the remaining officers. They shall present a Presidential Report at the onset of each meeting. The Co-Vice Presidents shall assist the Co-Presidents in all their duties. They shall assume the duties of the Co-Presidents in their absence. They Section 3: Section 4: Section 5: shall keep a record of members in attendance at meetings and functions. The Co-Treasurers shall be responsible for all Movement Science Sport and Leisure Studies Majors’ Club funds. They shall keep a current record of all expenditures. They shall have the duties of Chairman of Meetings in the absence of the Co-Vice Presidents. They shall present a Treasurer’s Report at the onset of each meeting. The Administrative Assistant shall keep the minutes of each meeting and session. S/he shall keep a record of all motions passed by the Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies Majors’ Club. S/he shall be responsible for all official correspondence. S/he shall present an Administrative Assistant’s Report at the onset of each meeting. Officers for the upcoming school year shall be selected during the final club meeting of the previous school year Students who meet the membership guidelines identified in Article III are eligible to hold office. The term of office for each officer shall be one (1) academic year. Article V Advisors: Section 1: Section 2: Advisors to the club shall be elected by a majority vote of the members of the Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies Majors’ Club. The advisor shall be a faculty member, staff member or librarian of Westfield State University. Advisors shall advise both officers and members at all meetings, and outside of all such meetings with regard to Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies Majors’ Club activities. They shall also act as a liaison between the Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies Majors’ Club and the Department of Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies, Athletic Department and the administration of Westfield State University. Article VI Elections: Section 1: Section 2: Section 3: Section 4: All students that meet the membership requirements established in Article III may nominate people for office by submitting a written request to the current Co-Presidents. Election votes will be cast by written ballot and tallied by the Administrative Assistant. No election may be held if there is not a quorum of fifty percent (50%) of the club members plus one (1) at the meeting. In the event of a tie, a runoff election will be held. Article VII Meetings: Section 1: Section 2: Section 3: The club will meet no less than one (1) time per month (excluding January) during the academic year. Officers may hold separate meetings with only the officers and/or with the advisor(s). Special meetings may be called by the Co-Presidents and/or the club advisor(s). Article VIII Vacancies: Section 1: Vacancies for office and/or advisor will be filled through a majority vote of the remaining club officers. Article IX Amending Procedure: Section 1: This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3rds) majority vote of the voting members of the club and if approved by the Rules and Regulations Committee of the Student Government Association. Article X Removal from Office: Section 1: Section 2: Removal of an officer may be made through a majority vote of the remaining officers given that the individual has not performed his/her duties Removal of an advisor may be made through a majority vote of the officers of the Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies Majors’ Club.
