Newsletter – 19 th April 2013.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Already we are at the end of the first week of the Summer Term and the weather has at last started to improve.

Let’s hope it continues!

All classes have got straight down to work; Year 6 have their SATS in the week beginning May 13 th - this will be a week of tests which will be marked externally. This year our children will be undertaking a Grammar,

Punctuation and Spelling test in addition to their Reading test. These tests are very important for our children so please do not keep them off school unless they are really ill.

Year 2 are also preparing for their SATs; these are carried out under normal classroom conditions with less pressure!

Children in Year 1 will have their phonics test this term, carried out by Ms

Begum on a one to one basis.

Results for all sets of tests will be sent to parents/carers at the end of term.

This week our children have already been out and about. Year 5 and 6 have been to the Royal Observatory and

Planetarium to learn more about the

Earth and Planets for their Science studies. They watched a show called,

‘Meet the Neighbours’, which involved being blasted into space. They then visited The Moon and several other planets, landing on some. They also discovered The Asteroid Belt. Who knows if some of our children will, in the future, have the opportunity to really travel into space???

Later, they stood on The Meridian Line where time begins and practised travelling back and forwards in time!

Several other trips have been planned for this term as well as the two residential trips for KS2. Parents/carers should be aware that we are not able to refund deposits for these trips as the money has already been sent off to the centres and cannot be claimed back.

Unfortunately we have had several complaints from local residents about the cars parked outside our nursery in the morning. Apparently buses are unable to get through and there is serious congestion. Please could all parents/carers be aware that they must not park on our school zig zags or on the yellow lines. If the problem continues we will have no option but to ask the local police to issue fines. I understand that a £60 on the spot fine is applicable to this type of offence.

This week we have been learning about

Courtesy - one of our 4Cs. We heard the story of the one leper out of ten who came back to thank Jesus for healing him. We have also been encouraging the children to ‘turn the other cheek’; not easy!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Annabelle Birleanu and staff.
