ASSISTANT FAITHFUL FRIAR COMMENTS
DISCOVER JESUS CHRIST
An invitation has been extended to every member of the Knights of Columbus and their
families. The invitation is to discover Jesus Christ and allow Him to touch you and to teach
you. If we accept the invitation, than we will direct our everyday thoughts and actions to living
as He wants to live in us, treating one another as He wants to treat each of us. If we really
discover the God who has become Man, it will make a profound difference in you and the way
you touch and teach your family. Whether we discover Him early in our lives or later may not
be of much importance. What is important is that we look, that we follow God's
directions. We may have to ask others to help us. We might have to lean on the strength and
wisdom of others. But we are supposed to keep trying to see Jesus in our lives. And when we do
discover Him, we will know it, for we will be strongly moved to change our ways and live much
better lives. We will know what it really means to be a Christian.
It is true. And it is worth repeating. God is leading you and your family. Try to discover how,
and follow. It has nothing to do with distance in miles. It concerns the opening of your mind,
the deepening of your understanding, the awakening of your desires for the treasures God wishes
to give you from his coffers. And, like those who have made a Retreat, you will return home a
different, a much wiser person - eager to live a better life.
When the Three Wise Men returned home, I am sure they lived their lives differently than
before. They certainly returned wiser than they were before. And theY more than likely learned
to open their hearts to everyone.
May the New Year bring you and your family God's choices blessings.
Fr. Jack Whitley, C.S.B.
Faithful Navigator Comments:
On February 26 through the 28th, the Spring Exemplification will be held in Vidor. I can’t stress
enough the importance of growing the Assembly. Our goal is still 31 new Sir Knights. We
brought in 11 at the last exemplification. 20 seems a tall order but we had 4 or 5 candidates that
couldn’t make it in October. We have our job cut out for us and I encourage everyone to just ask
a 3rd degree member to join.
As evident from some of the pictures below, everyone had a great time at the Assembly
Christmas party. We are grateful to everyone who attended, brought side dishes or desserts to
share, brought gifts to share with Helping Hands of Richmond-Rosenberg and of course to
the Sir Knights of St. Laurence Council 11343 who brought a sumptuous feast of turkey, ham
and all the fixings.

January 2010 Newsletter
As we enter the second half of the fraternal year, I can’t help but assess what the assembly has
accomplished in the first 6 months. The assembly still has much to do but I believe we have
taken a great step forward in our attempts to be visible at many district events, many parish
events and of course in paying respects to the Sir Knights who have gone on to their eternal
reward. You have all responded wonderfully to many turnout requests. Please keep it up! It’s
nice to know that those tuxes still fit after all these years!
It is also a welcome sight to see many of you at the meetings. I realize that a lot of you have
commitments during the week. That’s why you are Sir Knights, because you are committed to
not only your families but to your extended church families as many of you participate in various
parish events. So, should your schedule permit, do come out and participate. We’d love to sit
awhile and break bread as we tackle the assembly’s business.
Finally, regarding our attempts at ever expanding our “electronic reach”, the e-mail list continues
to grow. We welcome SK Kevin Dixon from Australia from whom I just recently received an email with his address. Please join me in welcoming our brother Sir Knight from ”the land down
under”.
Dues statements will be out this month. Please help us save some postage and turn in your dues
either at the meeting this month or in the mail as you get this newsletter so that Faithful
Comptroller Jack Ferguson can take your dues statement out of the “to mail” pile.
The Color Guard gets yet another opportunity to show off it’s talents as we have been invited to
present the colors at KC night at the Aeros at the Toyota Center. That will be on January 10th and
details have been passed around at the council levels for tickets. Part of the ticket price will be
donated to State Charities. So come out, cheer our Color Guard on and donate to a good cause.

Sir Knight’s Corner
The following is a thank you note from SK Jim Lord’s son:
Brother Knights,
I want to personally thank the numerous Knights who attended my father’s Visitation, Funeral
Mass, and Interment—it was impressive. With the schedule confronting everyone, the turnout
was even more impressive. It was very important to my father to have the Knights participate, so
your effort/sacrifice was not in vain. My entire family thanks the Knights of Columbus for
making the celebration of his life so personal and special. You are a blessed group of men.
With humble gratitude,
Robert Lord
1st degree Knight of Council 11343 (desperately trying to get back from California !)
