Child custody evaluator's credentials under fire by lawsuit
San Diego, CA / AUGUST 11, 2009 – California family courts frequently order parents with children to endure child
custody evaluations which can cost tens of thousands of dollars and devastate the lives of many of those involved, yet
unconscionably some courts do not rigorously check the credentials of the child custody evaluators to whom they refer
the parents! Stephen Doyne, Ph.D., a prominent San Diego child custody evaluator has been involved in hundreds if not
thousands of custody cases. A lawsuit was filed against Doyne by a prominent California psychiatrist after he became
suspicious of Doyne’s credentials. Doyne was the child custody evaluator in the psychiatrist's case.
Consequently, Doyne has recently been the subject of several news stories. The news stories reported that the lawsuit
alleges some of Doyne’s credentials were obtained from a sham credentialing organization, the "American College of
Forensic Examiners," which has issued credentials to a convicted murderer and a cat. The Wall Street Journal and several
media and professional journals exposed the organization as a certification-mill, which sells impressive looking
credentials for roughly $350.
The media stories also mention allegations that universities, including University of San Diego School of Law, have denied
in writing any record of Doyne being an instructor or professor at those universities, despite his claim to the contrary on
his curriculum vitae.
KUSI Channel 10 News San Diego ran an expose on July 7 and 8, 2009, Custody Evaluator’s Credentials Questioned In
Lawsuit, http://www.10news.com/video/19987712/index.html & http://10newsblogs.com/iteam/?p=657. The San Diego
Reader ran a similar story on July 1, 2009, The American Board of Nonexistence,
http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2009/jul/01/city-light-2/.
The media attention spawned the creation of a San Diego parents’ rights group called “The Doyned.” Group members
who appeared in the Channel 10 story all said that Doyne came highly recommended by their attorneys and/or the family
court.

PROMINENT CUSTODY EVALUATOR INVESTIGATION
Page 2
Given that the courts require litigants to rigidly adhere to court policies and procedures, the undersigned firmly believe
family courts should be audited to see how child custody evaluators are evaluated, that is, if they are evaluated at all.
To do otherwise is a travesty of justice and clearly not in the best interests of the children who may have wrongfully been
denied one of their parents.
Please attend the case management hearing on August 14, 2009 that begins at 9:40am at the San Diego Hall of Justice,
330 West Broadway, Fifth floor, Dept. 70.
Due to combined efforts of the “Doyne” and exposure by the Media, Judge Joan Lewis, who was sitting on this case was
replaced by the Honorable Judge Jay M Bloom the day after 10News aired their story July 7, 2009. Dr. Tadros seeks to
move the case out of San Diego County over general conflict of interest with Stephen Doyne and San Diego Superior
Court. Showing their support of Dr. Tadros, the “Doyned” will stand for him in the courtroom when he approaches the
table. They will also be available for questions outside.
