Helen Kessler reviewed some of the progress being made for Pancake Day. There are only 19 days left: please continue to sell tickets and try to make sure that any ads that you may have obtained are paid for. Mark Matt said that at the present time we have about $26,000 in ads, less about $3,500 in trade exchanges, bringing our total to about $22,500. Mark Strodel noted that ticket sales are about $5,000, with another $5,000 expected at the door. That means we need about another $8,000 to bring us up to our goal. Vanna Reisman noted that we still need volunteers to help with the set up on Friday morning. We will be starting around 8:30 am and go until everything is done. Before forming their circles of support, circle leaders complete a 15-sesion training using Getting Ahead in a Just Getting By World, which is based on Bridges out of Poverty in which they identify their own goals; create a plan for success; and learn the skills necessary to take on leadership and decisionmaking roles within their own Circle and in the larger community. Allies also attend Bridges out of Poverty training so that Circle Leaders and Allies understand the “hidden rules” of economic class and share a common language to talk about poverty, economic class, race and community prosperity. The Circles campaign has produced a number of measurable and tangible outcomes among the individuals, families and communities who have passed through the program. The general outcomes include: Reduced poverty within the community; Increased income and stability among participating famies; Reduced crime, abuse and abandonment within the community; General improvements in the economic status of the community; Reduction in community tax revenues devoted to social welfare programs. Traditional programs deliver services on behalf of the community. Circles Campaign builds a circle of support around families to help them achieve their dreams.
