Radiation Instrumentation Technical Committee (RITC) Report to Adcom, March 3, 2001 Glenn F. Knoll, RISC Chair 1) The 2000 NSS/MIC was held on October 15-21 in Lyon, France, the first outside North America. Patrick LeDu did an outstanding job as General Chairman, and Stig Larsson contributed a great deal as MIC Program Chairman. Bill Moses ably filled the role of RISC liaison to this conference. Patrick will be making a detailed report on the conference to Adcom at this meeting. 2) The 2001 NSS/MIC is scheduled for the Town and Country Hotel in San Diego on Nov. 4-10, 2001. Tony Lavietes is General Chairman, and Ben Tsui will be MIC Program Chairman. Tony will be reporting on plans for the conference. 3) The 2002 NSS/MIC will be held in Norfolk, Virginia on November 11-15, 2002. Joel Karp will be General Chairman, with Paul Kinahan serving as MIC Program Chairman. Contracts have been executed with two hotels whose combined capacity is required for adequate meeting space. 4) A site selection committee (chaired by John Valentine) is in the process of visiting potential locations for the 2003 NSS/MIC, concentrating on locations in the Western U.S. Ralph James will be serving as General Chair of the symposium. 5) The Radiation Instrumentation TC, together with the Nuclear Medical Science and Imaging TC, have encouraged exploration of possible sites in Europe for the 2004 NSS/MIC. A Site Selection Committee, chaired by Erik Heijne, will be responsible for evaluating proposals put forward for European sites. A recommendation to go forward, or to plan instead for a U.S. location, will be due on July 1 of this year. 6) At this Adcom meeting, I will be introducing a motion to approve the inauguration two biennial awards in connection with the Nuclear Science Symposium. This step was approved by RISC at our meeting on October 19. An award program is already in place for the MIC, and we propose a parallel award program for the NSS part of the combined annual symposium.
