Youth Theatre
EARTH ROCK! (Ages 9 and Up) – An Ecological Musical that is current, cutting edge
and timely. This original musical explores topics such as the environment, air quality,
recycling, global warming and the oil crisis. The experience will have students rockin’
and singin’ well after this memorable quarter! Auditions: Sept. 1 & 2, 5-8pm; Call backs
Sept. 3, 6-8pm. Call the Arts Center to schedule an audition time.

Musical Theatre Workshops (Ages 6-9) – Process oriented classes specifically designed
to instill basic, much needed skills in order to successfully be a part of a production. This
class will end in a demo evidencing the learning experience.

Acting for Youth (Ages 9 and Up) – Develop acting techniques in young people not
necessarily interested in musical theatre. Emphasis will be on the monologue, scene study
and all aspects of basic theatre necessary to becoming a true actor.

Creative Dramatics and Movement (Ages 3-5) – For the beginner drama queen or
king! Incorporates theatre and music games to allow the young thespian both freedom

Visual Art
Theatre Scene Design (Ages 9 and Up) – You’ll find out that not all the fun happens
onstage! This class will design backdrops, flats, and props exclusively for the Arts
Center’s EARTH ROCK! Musical.

Storytelling With Puppets (Ages 8 and Up) – Bring on the puppets! Students will
design and create papier mache rod puppets and produce a puppet show for friends and
family. Elements of story, scriptwriting and puppetry will be taught in a fun way.

Superhero/Princess Art (Ages 4 and Up) – Choose to be a Superhero or a Princess!
Superheroes will create their own super outfit- complete with utility belt, tools, and an
arch-villain of clay. Princesses will create their own jewelry, jewelry box, a princess
outfit, and a mini castle of clay.

Comic Book Art (Grades 3-6 & 7-12) – This exciting and super-powered class will help
you create your very own comic book. Learn the ins and outs of comic book design while
sending your own hero or heroine on the greatest adventure of their life!

Digital Photography (Grades 7-12) – This class is highly individualized in order to
cover basic through advanced photography, digital imaging, printing techniques, and

help the visual arts applicant prepare for the workshops and auditions held by the

Oldham County Strings Project
Beginning Strings (Grades 1-2 & 3-4) – Develop an appreciation for music by learning
violin or cello in a fun and supportive environment. Students are grouped into small
classes where music is taught through basic note reading, ear training, and peer teamwork
using the #1 world-wide rated string method.

Junior Orchestra (Grades 1 and Up) – A first orchestra experience for students who
have completed at least one year of string instruction. The focus is ensemble playing and
more advanced string technique. This class is also the next level for students participating
in Beginning Strings.

OC Strings Private Instruction (Ages 4 and Up) – We welcome children with no
musical experience through those with advanced abilities to take private lessons in violin,
viola, or cello. Enrolled students receive scholarship to participate in Junior Orchestra or
Chamber Ensemble.

Oldham County Chamber Ensemble (Grades 6-12) - This Program offers string
players and pianists the unique opportunity to experience chamber music in their high
school and middle school years. Repertoire covers masterworks for trios, quartets,
quintets, and string orchestra, but it also includes simpler scores for intermediate groups.
Rehearsals, coachings, master classes, and performances are all incorporated to create a
complete, high-quality, and exhilarating musical experience. Individuals as well as
existing groups are welcome. Auditions: Aug. 25 and Sept. 1, 4-7pm. Call the Arts
Center to schedule a placement audition.

Music
Oldham County Youth Ensemble (Ages 10-18) – A community ensemble for boys and
girls with treble voices. Excellence in musical performance is the aim; therefore members
will be taught sound vocal techniques, theory and sight-singing skills, musical standards,
performance etiquette and discipline, and the value of working together for a common
goal. Two major seasonal concerts and other “run-out” performance opportunities are
included. Students must be enrolled in their school choir if the opportunity is available.
Auditions: Aug. 20, 27, and Sept. 3, 4:30-6:00 pm. Contact the Arts Center to schedule
an audition time.

Rock Band Program (Ages 7-Adult) – For students who have completed at least 6
months of private instruction. The focus is on group playing and more advanced band
techniques. Band members are placed according to age and ability for these weekly hour
long sessions. Existing bands are welcome. Culminates in a “concert jam” for family and
friends.

Oldham County Jazz Connection (Grades 9-12) – Now in its fifth year as an 18 piece
big band that performs music of various styles both modern and vintage. This is a high
school credit course that rehearses before school three days per week. OCJC took home
top honors at the 2009 National Smoky Mountain Music Festival. Contact the Arts Center
to schedule an audition.

anytime during the year and the tuition will be adjusted to reflect the remaining lessons
left in current quarter. Students have the opportunity to perform in recitals and concerts
throughout the year.
