First Impressions The Newsletter of FPC of Houma July 2010 From our Moderator: For five weeks this summer members of FPCH have diligently searched God’s Word for God’s calling to FPCH. After studying about 50 scripture texts together, sharing our hopes and dreams, and praying for God’s guidance they have proposed the following working vision statement. We call it a “working statement” because a) it needs further work, but b) we need to get to work, and c) we believe God is calling a specific man to work with you to bring it into full focus. We pray that you will begin to use this statement as a “self assessment” by asking: “Do I love God with all my heart, mind, and soul?” “Will I strive to love my neighbor as myself?” We believe the answers to these questions, and the resulting actions will begin to remake FPCH into a house where the Love of God is the guiding force. God Bless you, Bill Crawford First Presbyterian Church of Houma – Vision Statement Matthew 22:36-40. First Presbyterian Church of Houma is called to “love the LORD our God with all our heart, soul, and mind and to love our neighbor as ourselves.” We seek to pursue this mission by focusing on Christ and these key purposes given to the church. WORSHIP Exalt and love God in unity by offering praise and petition and by confessing Jesus is LORD. MINISTRY Ministry is loving one another, by encouraging one another, caring for one another and using Gods gifts in service to one another. DISCIPLESHIP Teaching the good news of God’s love in Christ, through Bible study; applying God’s truth and demonstrating the gospel in our daily lives. MISSION Following the great commandment we will proclaim the gospel in our homes, communities and to the ends of the earth, through outreach, testimony, sharing of gifts and works of mercy in love. We will seek to display the joy of our salvation to the world. FELLOWSHIP Fellowship begins with our mutual acceptance in Christ, it shows its self in the common joy of the spirit and it strengthens the body in love. In pursuing these purposes it is our conviction we will “glorify God and enjoy him forever”: question one of the Larger Westminster Catechism. The estimated cost of this “Fun Day” will be around $400.00. Plus we will need volunteers to help with the crafts, games, barbequing, and helpers.
