Job Purpose:
To undertake research in accordance with the specified research project under the supervision of the award
holder.
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities:

1. To carry out and develop the research activities of the group.

2. Carry out administrative tasks associated with specified research funding, e.g. risk
assessment of research activities, organisation of project meetings and documentation.
Implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely formal reporting
and financial control.

3. Collaborate/work on original research tasks with colleagues in other institutions.

4. Regularly disseminate findings by taking the lead in preparing publication materials for
referred journals, presenting results at conferences, or exhibiting work at other
appropriate events.

5. Supervise the work of junior research staff.

6. Contribute to writing bids for further research funding.

Direct responsibility to holder of research award and academic supervisor.
Good working relationship with collaborating institutions in this specific project.
Good working relationship with the CNS Inflammation group in Centre for Biological Sciences Unit, the staff
of Clinical Neurosciences and the staff of the Biological Research Facility.
Good working relationship with collaborators and colleagues in other departments and institutions and
certain outside suppliers of research equipment and consumables.
May have additional reporting and liaison responsibilities to external funding bodies or sponsors.

Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification
and experience in Biological Sciences or related
subject(s)

PhD or equivalent in Neuroscience or
Neuroimmunology

Knowledge of cellular biology/neuroimmunology


Working knowledge of in vivo techniques

Working knowledge of cell culture techniques

Working knowledge of histology,
immunocytochemistry,

Working knowledge of qPCr, ELISAs
