FuoriDiTaste: spreading flavors around Florence and discovering Taste products FuoriDiTaste is the program of “outside the fair” events that brings Florence into the heart of TASTE and features the city’s restaurants, gourmet shops, boutiques, art galleries, theaters and museums. Here is a sampling of this edition’s events and places: - FuoriDiTaste at GUCCI CAFFÈ, the new iconic place for taste in the city During TASTE the Gucci Caffè will be a place for discoveries, meetings and the lead player in a series of micro-events and dedicated menus created in cooperation with Zero Km fair’s productions such as La Molina, Storica Fattoria il Palagiaccio and La Via del Tè. It will be an opportunity to experience a unique place in Italy with its cosmopolitan spirit that has deep roots in Florence and to enjoy…. - RICCARDO BARTHEL presents: Merenda a Casa Barthel A Snack at the Barthel’s and the third edition of Ortobello® Saturday, 10 March at 5:30 p.m., Riccardo Barthel will present the new, contemporary crafted kitchen, a warm and functional place where tradition will bring back memories of freshly home baked cakes. Then, on Sunday 11 March from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., his boutique-workshop will host the by now traditional appointment with Ortobello®. Ortobello® is a 0 km food market that offers the possibility of buying locally grown produce in the Florentine furniture company’s courtyard. Visitors can shop for vegetables, milk and other fresh goods and then put traditional knowledge and flavors on their tables at home. This, the third edition of Ortobello® will be enriched with talks and programs to highlight good local practices. - “Cake Thinking”, a solo show, featuring Marina Calamai at t he GALLERIA DI PALAZZO COVERI From 8 March to 16 April, at the Galleria di Palazzo Coveri, Marina Calamai will present 25 of her latest works: super-realistic interpretations of a single subject: cake, with an introduction by critic Marco Testa. During the opening reception on Thursday, 8 March at 6:30 p.m., Villa Marta by l’Osteria De L’Ortolano (Florence) will celebrate its 50th anniversary with “Martarè anniversary”, a brand new version of the famous chocolate cake. And… Veronica Belli representing the Cantina dei Colli Vicentini will offer tastes of two outstanding wines - Spumante Lessini Durello DOC and Spumante Recioto di Gambellara DOCG. - Bronte and Brontë at Pampaloni The people who create Sicilfrutti, the delights of Bronte, and Juliet Gael, aut hor of the book Romancing Miss Bronte, will be in the Pampaloni silver shop (that had been a bookshop founded in 1879) on Friday, 9 March, offering tastes of specialties made by Sicilfrutti the Sicilian makers of exceptionally high quality crafted goods in which Bronte pistachio nuts are practically ever present. And everything will be shown off to its best in Pampaloni’s silver, and served with the stunning flatware collection “ Le Due Sicilie” : soft torrone with Bronte pistachio nuts, pan pistacchio and peccatucci (crispy torroncino in different flavors). - RIVA LOFTS FLORENCE presents Champagne Update – The 2012-2013 edition of the 99 best names in Champagne Friday, 9 March, 6:00 p.m., Riva Lofts will present the latest edition of the guidebook that Gourmand International has elected the “Best Italian book on French Wines” in 2011. With Luca Managlia and the publisher (Ed. Estemporanee). Guests will have an opportunity to enjoy the flavors of Riva East – Riva’s cuisine with Champagne Jean Milan, Fleury (Heres Group). -ZIBIBBO & Taste For Meyer Friday 9 March, at 8:30 p.m., Ristorante Cucina Zibibbo will be holding a benefit dinner for the Fondazione Ospedale Pediatrico Meyer – the Florence children’s hospital. An array of dishes prepared with Tuscan nic he products, interpreted according to local culinary traditions and presented with the chef’s own innovative touches. During the evening, a spokesperson for the Fondazione Meyer will talk about future plans and projects, to combine a passion for fine flavors with an important goal. - INO "Taste nel pan'ino" [TASTE in a sandwich] Saturday 10 March, from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, Alessandro Frassica at INO will prepare a menu of sandwiches and wines, combining them with tea signed by Damman Frères. - The “Six” Senses of Extra Virgin Olive Oil at J.K. PLACE The Frantoio Franci will be bringing something special, created together with Matia Barciulli of the Osteria di Passignano, to Florence just for TASTE. Saturday and Sunday, 10-11 March, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., they will present Happy Oil - the Senses of Oil – an event that breaks away from the standards used to publicize extra virgin olive oil, using a new language that speaks directly to the senses. Riso Acquerello, the star of “Acquerello & Ice” and Ora d’Aria An intense program for the “Lord of Rise”, Piero Rondolino who will bring his famous Riso Acquerello to Florence for TASTE and FuoriDiTaste. From Saturday to Monday (10 -12 March) Aquerello will be served al fresco during “Acquerello & Ice”, in unusual, original interpretations by Simone Bonini of the Gelateria Carapina. And more: on Monday, 12 March there will be an Ora d’Aria – a dinner planned and created by Marco Stabile who promises a taste of Riso “dall'Acquerello alla Z ” – call it rice from A to Z! - FuoriDiTaste at FOUR SEASONS During TASTE, the Four Seasons Hotel Florence will host a rich program of events. From 7:00 to 11:00 p.m., on all three days, the Ristorante Il Palagio will present dedicated-menu tasting sessions: hand-sliced Patanegra Gran Reserva Joselito ham, a cream of artichokes and chicken livers with Paolo Parisi’s eggs and Mortadella from Prato, Spaghettone from the Pastificio Benedetto Cavalieri dressed with olive oil and garlic and giblet sauce, Calvana beef glazed with balsamic vinegar from Il Borgo del 2 Balsamico and Savini black truffles; caramel roll with hazelnut praline, zabaione and gianduja ice cream. Then, every evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., in the Atrium Bar, cocktails created specifically for FuoriDiTaste, selected wines and nibbles with products from the Salumificio Mannori. Guests will have a chance to sample delicacies such as Calvana game, roasted mortadella from Prato with Carmignano fig jam, and crisp vincisgrassi with Calvana ragout. Still on Friday 9, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., in the Sala Della Gherardesca, Gian Luca Uccelli, the Contadi Castaldi enologist will present the wine that is most representative of the Franciacorta area, Satèn.
