PROFILE
An Infrastructure Engineer with over 10 years’ experience within multiple industries, including

Utilize PLC is a Managed Service Company providing 24/7/365 helpdesk support and project
implementation to Education and Commercial arena.
Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Employed to support customer’s network at 3rd line level support, working as part of a team of 12
Engineers. Also led a projects team consisting of 3 Engineers working on a variety Infrastructure Projects.
Responsibilities:
 Performed installations, configurations and migration of servers, in varying environments from
Windows 2012 / 2008 / 2003 servers
 Installed Virtual servers using VMware, Vsphere or Microsoft Hyper V either as a new install or using
VMware P2V to virtualise an already functioning physical machine
 Designed and developed infrastructures by liaising with the customer to understand their needs to
provide a suitable upgrade or installation on their network
 Supported different companies’ infrastructure within a variety of sectors including Solicitors,
Financial, Education and Building services sectors amongst others
 Monitored clients’ infrastructure using N-Able Application which actively alerted issues on a client’s
infrastructure and automated IT service delivery
 Supported Microsoft Exchange environments with some having Blackberry Enterprise Server or
Mimecast for email archiving
 Configured and managed Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and DFS.
 Configured and installed Sonicwall and WatchGuard firewalls, also implemented VPN connections
between offices or individual users be it a site to site connection or using SSLVPN for individual end
users
 Maintained clients’ backups, which was either to tape or hard disk using Symantec Backup Exec or
Ahsay online backup software. Also used Veeam for backups of Virtual servers on VMware.
 Worked on end to end ownership of incidents, change, service requests through to closures, as well as
escalated requests to 3rd line support
 Worked independently or within varying team sizes of 3-10 members which included Project
Managers, stakeholders and other engineers
Two projects worked on are as follows:
1. Virtualisation Project – Infrastructure Engineer
Europa International had 300+ users on a mixture of Windows 2003 and 2008 servers and wanted to
decrease their overall server footprint of 20 servers to 4 servers, without impacting on performance but
providing growth within the organisation.
 Worked as part of a team of 2 including one other engineer as well as working with 3rd party vendors
and stakeholders
 Designed, installed and configured a VMware Vsphere environment using 4 IBM x3650s with IBM
Storewize V3700 shared to facilitate VMware High Availability
 Implemented Dell Appassure on one of the servers for the image backup of all VMs and the images
were backed up offsite to a Datacentre. This also gave the option for disaster recovery
 Used VMware P2V to convert the physical servers on to 4 Hosts with shared storage
2. CRM Application Project – Infrastructure Engineer
Upgraded Helvars SuperOffice CRM solution for 100+ users to the latest version and migrated from on
premise to the cloud allowing external users to access the CRM database more easily.
 Worked as part of a team of 2 liaising with 3rd party vendor Fujitsu and stakeholders, to come up with
the design and scope of works for the upgrade

Fujitsu Vendor provided 2 new servers at their Datacentre;
remotely connected to the server to install the new version of the CRM software and configured to
client’s requirements

The server back end was Microsoft SQL, and this was where
their existing data from their old installation was imported in to

Run some testing to make sure the agent was correctly installed
on to users’ desktop which integrated with their office applications
Provided training to key stakeholders in the new features of the
application and maintenance routines to be applied, in meetings at their head office in Finland
Achievements:
 Sourced and implemented on own initiative the application Mimecast, which allowed users’ mailboxes
to be automatically archived to a cloud based database which alleviated work load on the premise
server reducing tickets by approx. 30%
 Proactively implemented, N-Able, a reporting application that allowed the company to be proactive
rather that reactive when dealing with clients’ issues. This not only automated some of the tasks but
also reduced man hours by 50 – 60 per month.

Emis provides patient database system used by Health care organisations across the UK.
Infrastructure Engineer
Employed to make site visits to GPs and hospitals across the UK, to troubleshoot systems and perform
installations. Worked individually and on occasion was part of a team of 3 to 10 engineers.
Responsibilities:
 Field Engineer (100% customer facing) focused on installation, upgrade, ongoing support and
commissioning of computer related hardware and bespoke software primarily within the Health Care
environment
 Day to day support and installation of hardware of HP servers and HP desktops either working as part
of a team of 3 to 10 engineers or independently across multiple sites in the UK
 Diagnosed and resolved issues carrying out break fix repairs on HP servers, HP desktops and LTO
Backup drives
 Installed and maintained HP Servers and HP desktops at GP Surgeries and Hospitals
 Updated and completed reports on each job, whilst also making recommendations to clients for any
upgrades that were required on site outside of the initial scope of work
 Migrated Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange on to new hardware with minimal down time to
clients, making sure Active Directory roles had come across correctly
Projects worked on:
1. GV to PCs application – Infrastructure Engineer
The project was to update GPs patient database application to the latest version, whilst also upgrading all
desktops and printers.
 Part of a 10 man team implementing an application upgrade of the patient record database called GV
to the latest version which was called PCS
 The latest version had a SQL backed database using Microsoft SQL2000
 The Practice was spread across 5 sites and connected by Frame Relay Protocol
 Worked on the installation and migration of the Server environment consisting of Active Directory,
DNS, WINS, DHCP and Microsoft Exchange 2003 along with another Engineer
 All data on the HP servers was backed up before any work was started, which was to tapes
 The other Engineers dealt with upgrading all HP Desktops and printers on all the sites and made sure
that all connections were up and that the servers were contactable upon completion
Achievements:

Company targets where to complete the majority of installations within a period of three days
however would often complete these within two limiting the amount of down time for the clients as
much as possible.
