Turning a Disadvantage into an Advantage...What the Hell do we do?
Its nearing the end of winter, bull sales are upon you and decisions have to be made.
This is a tough gig however you look at it!
The past 12 months has seen challenges rivaling the 1974 beef crash for many Australian Beef
Producers. Those who felt the Indonesian live export crisis would not impact southern markets have
sadly been proven wrong.
Our Northern Producers need options as Government intervention involving Australian Beef
producers livelihoods have been compromised, and with no other alternative, been forced to turn
cattle into Southern and Eastern markets.
A dry "North" has seen huge numbers of cattle book a taxi ride into Southern Australian looking for
alternative markets.
A classic supply and demand scenario has resulted in an oversupply of cattle driving the cattle
market down to levels in comparative terms, that rival some of the toughest times experienced in
the beef industry in recent times.
A high Aussie dollar during most of the past year has not helped our processors move product on a
World trading platform.
What is remarkable however is that product has in fact sold, underpinning the "new era" of a world
stage hungry for protein, and a key point of difference to the 1974 beef crash, when a massive over
supply of meat resulted.
Recent weeks is now showing signs of recovery, with numbers of cattle sold beginning to decline.
Southern Australia and the East are now experiencing more favorable seasonal conditions; the
dollar has dropped to circa 90 cents US and processors are selling meat! New markets, new
opportunities with EU and Chinese markets showing record gains.
So what the hell do you do re buying bulls this season? This coming season is going to provide
Incredible Opportunity to capitalize on the value for money that will be offered to bull buyers in the
coming weeks.
The decisions made now will impact on your income and profitability in 3 years time from the
resultant progeny. The gain (or loss) from this year's buying choices impact on the quality of your
female herd for the next 10 years. A bad choice now will long impact the future quality of your herd.
By now you will have received countless emails, sale catalogues and fliers advertising the offerings
of stud breeders of many wide and varied breeds of cattle for the coming spring bull selling season.
Rural papers, web sites, TV and radio are full of listings and sale dates.
All will claim great offerings, best genetics yet and high quality sale cattle backed by glossy photos,
performance data, pedigrees and ages.
At Yulgilbar Santa Gertrudis we are no different!
So how do cattle producers and bull buyers sift thru this barrage of information and make a
decision?
We trust, by now most will have seen our newspaper and internet ads, received a sale catalogue,
letter or flier, checked our web site www.yulgilbar.com.au or spoken with us in regard to what’s on
offer at Yulgilbar in 2013.
But we think we have a point of difference in our commitment to our clients to supply “Industry
Focused, Commercially Relevant genetics” that will perform, whether you are from the North, West,
East or South!
