IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME
1Corinthians 11:23-26
INTRODUCTION: When Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper, He told His disciples to eat the bread and
drink of the cup in remembrance of Him. The Lord’s Supper reminds us of three important truths: (1) we
must stay focused on Jesus, (2) we must abide in fellowship with Jesus, (3) and we must live each day with
anticipation of Jesus’ return. The Lord’s Supper reminds us that we have fellowship with the living Savior
who will never leave nor forsake us. `
I. FOCUS ON JESUS
A. REMEMBER HE DIED FOR US.
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our
peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed.” (Isa. 53:5)
“Who his own self bore our sins in His own body on the tree.” (1 Pet. 2:24)
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according
to the Scriptures.” (1 Cor. 15:3)
B. REMEMBER HIS DELIVERANCE OF US.
1. Deliverance from sin’s penalty. (death is the wages of sin, Rom. 6:23)
2. Deliverance from sin’s power. (release from sin’s control, Rom. 8:2-4)
“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that
henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” (Rom. 6:6-7)
3. Deliverance from sin’s punishment. (eternal lake of fire, John 5:24)
“He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into
condemnation, but is passed from death unto life.”
(John 5:24)
“Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dead
Son; In whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” (Col. 1:13-14)
II. FELLOWSHIP WITH JESUS
A. MEANS OF FELLOWSHIP.
1. His body.
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven; if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever; and
the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” (John 6:51)
2. His blood.
“Unto Him that loveth us, and washed us from our sins in his blood.” (Rev. 1:5)
“Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” (Rom.
5:9)
“He who eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.” (John 6:54-55)
B. MAINTAINING OF FELLOWSHIP.
1. Confessing of sin to the Savior.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (1 John
1:9-10)
2. Consecration of self to the Savior.
“But, as he who hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of life, Because it is written, Be ye
holy; for I am holy.” (1 Pet. 1:15-16)
III. FUTURE WITH JESUS
A. PREPARED FOR HIS RETURN.
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when
he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in
him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” (1 John 3:2-3)
B. PROMISE OF HIS RETURN. (John 14:1-3)
LESSONS FOR LIFE:
1. If we take of the Lord’s Supper without confessing our sins, we are guilty of the very things that nailed
Him to the cross, our sin.
2. If we will not judge and confess our sins, then God will judge and chasten us.
3. Jesus wants us to stay in fellowship with Him. Sin separates us from Him. If we confess our sins, the
blood of Jesus will cleanse us of our sins.
Christ died that we may live. In Christ, we have His life so we will never die!
