Summary of RDA Rules for Names and Preferred Title

Determine form of heading:

Search Orbis and the Library of Congress authority file for an authority record.

All authority records in LCAF will eventually be updated to RDA (008/Descriptive Cataloging

Rules = z); updates are currently in progress.

Some inconsistencies may be found in LCAF RDA records, due to changes in RDA rules during the last few years.

Any current authority record found in LCAF may be used as is.

If no authority record exists, create a heading in accordance with RDA rules and LC interpretations.

Consult a NACO cataloger if a new authority record should be created.
