Pre-operational Safety Checks
 Inspect the work area for hazards.
 Inspect tools, equipment, and materials for damage and other hazards. For example, check for electrical cord
damage.
 Choose the correct glue stick for the task, and ensure that the glue stick is inserted correctly into the glue gun.
 Inspect PPE and replace if required.

Safe Work Procedure
1. Put on required PPE. Wear shoes and safety gloves
to avoid being burned.
Using a Glue Gun
Cautions
 Keep fingers and hands away from heated parts.
2. Secure loose clothing, and tie back long hair.
 A glue gun may melt plastic objects if the glue gun
is placed too close.
3. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
 Prevent the cord from becoming a trip hazard.
4. Follow the school safety policy.
5. Concentrate on what you are doing. While using and
storing the glue gun, ensure that the glue gun does
not come into contact with plastic objects that could
melt.
6. Put away all tools, equipment, and materials in their
proper storage areas. Allow the glue gun to cool
before storing the glue gun.
7. Keep the work area clean as you work and make
sure to clean up when you are done.
8. Establish handwashing practices.
REPORT ANY HAZARDOUS SITUATION IMMEDIATELY!
If an emergency occurs while completing any task or the tool or equipment malfunctions, shut
off the power immediately, follow the lock-out procedure, and get help.
