Annual Conference Student Scholarship
The USTA/Midwest Section Collegiate Committee has elected to offer a scholarship to one (1)
college student to attend the NIRSA Annual Conference in Grapevine, TX, March 30-April 2,
2015. The USTA/Midwest Section recognizes the importance of the NIRSA Annual Conference
in educating future Recreation Professionals.
To be considered for scholarship awards during the 2014-15 academic year, those applying
must meet the following criteria (please note criteria in #5).
1. Be employed on campus in the USTA/Midwest Section (Region III) by recreation sports or be
an active participant in the recreational sports program, particularly in tennis.
2. Have a minimum current cumulative grade point average of 2.50 on a scale of 4.0.
Conversion should be calculated prior to applying for those on a 5.0 scale. Transfers from, or
those attending community colleges may use the most recent term GPA from that institution for
consideration.
3. Submit a letter of support from a member of the professional staff at their institution. Transfer
students and first year graduate students may submit a letter from a professional staff member
from their prior institution.
4. Student applicant must submit a short essay (not to exceed 250 words) on how he/she feels
the conference will enhance their student experience.
5. *Tennis background is not required. However, those applicants looking to enhance or
start tennis programs on campus will be given the highest consideration.
Requirements:
1. Must be a current student member of NIRSA.
2. Must be willing to attend the USTA Booth at the NIRSA Conference for a limited time if
needed.
3. Scholarship will cover the cost of NIRSA Annual Conference Registration, grant not to
exceed $400.00.
