Noun Game: Monday after introduction
MATERIALS: Letter blocks, deck of cards with students' names on them or something
to call on them throughout the game in a quick fashion
OBJECT: To be the last person standing in the game.
HOW TO PLAY:
1. Have students stand behind their chairs.
2. Draw a letter block (I have a bucket full of them.)
3. State your rule, for example, "You must give me a proper noun that starts with
the letter "n" as in Niagra Falls. (You can change what you'd like them to respond
with, common nouns, names, etc.)
4. Start calling students one by one to give you a word.
5. At the end of the round (after you've called everyone's name) pick a new letter
block ...
Nounsters: Tuesday
Have the students create a “nounster” (noun monster) This noun monster is a proper
noun. They can decorate and create their nounster with construction paper, markers,
etc. Then, have the students write a two+ paragraph story of the adventures of their
nounster. In their story, they must include all the different types of nouns and
underline them. (Or- write the story & exchange with another student and have
them underline the nouns, whatever is time permitting).
I would have this split into 4 groups. 2 group stations can be creating their nounster.
The other 2 group stations can be writing their story. In the writing stations, they
can quietly chat about their stories if need be, that way they can bounce ideas off of
each other.
Or- you could have the whole class write about their nounster first. Then, they could
gather supplies and create their nounster.
keep going (more material below)
