WORD PROCESSING (BEd 150) GRADING PROCEDURES Word Processing is primarily a “hands-on” course in which as much as possible is accomplished on the computer. Grading procedures are subject to change during the course, should I determine the need to do so. Grade weights: Assignments Quizzes Exam 324 points (42% of course grade) 300 points (39% of course grade) 150 points (19% of course grade) 774 points (100%) ASSIGNMENTS Tutorials (step-by-step instructions in the units of the textbook) and textbook and instructor-designed assignments will be given to you each week. Tutorials will be worth 4 points each for completion; other assignments will be worth 10 or more points each. Points will be deducted for formatting, placement, and proofreading errors. Proper grammar and good sentence structure will be expected on writing assignments. I believe that the quality of your work is very important, and that quantity in the form of extra-credit does NOT substitute for quality. Assignments (324 points) will become 42% of your course grade. You can assure yourself of your best work on assignments by: Proofreading all work yourself and by using the Spelling feature of Word 97. Completing work on time (late assignments are penalized 10% with no resubmission privileges). Checking completed work with Red Notebook, which contains samples of complete work. Resubmitting work on which the score is 85% or less of possible points. A resubmission, if all corrections have been made, can earn up to 90% of possible points. Please resubmit OLD and NEW copies at the next class period after your assignments have been returned to you. Tutorials, the major composition, and extra credit MAY NOT be resubmitted. QUIZZES After you have completed a week’s work and a review assignment the following week, a quiz will be given. This will usually take the form of a hands-on computer exercise for you to complete using Word 97. You MAY NOT use your textbook or notes to complete quizzes! Four quizzes (75 points each) will become 39% of your course grade. EXAM One major exam will be given. You MAY NOT use your textbook or notes to complete the exam. The exam (150 points) will become 19% of your course grade. COURSE GRADE A Student Scoring Sheet to keep track of your own points throughout the course can be found on the back of this page. Your letter grade for the course will be determined based on the following percent scale: 100 A+ 91-92 B+ 83-84 C+ 73-74 D+ 95-99 A 87-90 B 77-82 C 69-72 D 93-94 A85-86 B75-76 C67-68 DIf you have any questions at any time during the block regarding grading procedures, please discuss them with me by visiting me in my office, phoning, or e-mailing. grading procedures Fall 2000 B1
