You will be creating a scrapbook
about the different themes in Ancient Greece
covering every letter of the alphabet.
Each page should represent an event (i.e. war, election), person, city, battle from
our studies of Greece.
Each page will have two writing sections:
• the first will be an historical and factual information about your topic.
• the second writing section will be your opinion on why this topic was
important to our lives today or to the advancement of Ancient Greece.
• You must also include a drawing or picture of the topic
• list at least one of your sources (internet is okay, but be specfic—no
google or the internet)
Each explanation should be a minimum of 100 words and include all the
proper grammar and punctuation of a regular report. Of course, plagarism is
against school rules.
.
Process:
Each student will be assigned a letter ( even x—Xanthos was mythological) For example,
if your letter is A, you might choose the city of Athens, Athena, Aphrodite, or the
Acropolis. You would write 2 sections:
1—factual information about Athens
2—why Athens is an important city today
3—a photo of Athens today or an illustration (drawing).
Each student will combine this onto an 8 1/2” by 11” colored sheet of paper. Creativity
counts. The finished product will be 2 class scrapbooks with every letter of the alphabet.
We will start this in class and you will finish it as homework.
Due Date: June 10, 2011

Xanthus (or Xanthos)

Xanthos was one of the
immortal horses in Greek
mythology. His father was
Zephyrus—also known as the
West Wind. The other horse was
known as Balius. These two
horses were given to Peleus as a
wedding gift by the one and only
Poseidon, God of the Sea.
Xanthos was used in the famous
battles with Achilles as horses in
the chariots. These horses were
said to be as fast as the West
Wind.
This horse was important to Greek mythology because
it gave them the idea that horses were beautiful and quick
beasts, which could be immortal. Achilles, one of the
fiercest warriors, chose these hardy animals because he
wanted to be quick in battle.
