X Xanthus (or Xanthos) QuickTime™ and a decompressor are needed to see this picture. Xanthos was one of the immortal horses in Greek mythology. His father was Zephyrus—also known as the West Wind. The other horse was known as Balius. These two horses were given to Peleus as a wedding gift by the one and only Poseidon, God of the Sea. Xanthos was used in the famous battles with Achilles as horses in the chariots. These horses were said to be as fast as the West Wind. This horse was important to Greek mythology because it gave them the idea that horses were beautiful and quick beasts, which could be immortal. Achilles, one of the fiercest warriors, chose these hardy animals because he wanted to be quick in battle.
