Courses Description:
24034 Research Methods
Dr. Itzhak Aharon
The purpose of this course is to remind/introduce you the theory and practice of conducting social
sciences research. In this course we will address how to develop research questions, how to measure
social phenomena, ways of gathering social information and how to analyze that information
quantitatively. We will mainly discuss the following points:
1. Basic Descriptive Statistics
2. Chi-square, correlation and association
3. Bivariate regression (no diagnostics)
4.
Initial use of SPSS
273 International Politics I
Dr. Avi Segal
The purpose of this course is to introduce the students to some of the major concepts, theories and
approaches to the study of international politics. The first part of the course elaborates the origins of the
discipline and its history and philosophical roots. Next, we will turn our attention and examine the central
concepts such as power, influence, interest etc. In the third part, the focus will be placed on foreign policy
and its formation, decision making and the means of foreign policy such as diplomacy, economy and
military means. Finally, the fourth segment of the course will acquaint the student with the systemic
approach to world politics through the discussion of globalization and global problems such as
environment, human rights, proliferation of WMDs etc.
531 Introduction to Government
Dr. Sivan Hirsch
The course provides an overview of leading concepts and theoretical approaches in the filed of
government and politics. The goal is to provide students with basic knowledge and tools of political
analysis. The course will explore what political science is and evaluate the role that regimes, government
institutions [and the relationships between them], processes and political actors play in shaping political
outcomes. In doing so, key issues such as power, democracy, parties, elections, political culture, ideology,
social cleavages, public opinion and political behavior and participation will be reviewed.
