Your entry form must be in the Lee County Extension Office no later than 5:00 PM Friday,
September 9, 2011. Check-in is September 15th, 2:00 – 4:00 pm for steers and 4:00 – 6:00 pm

JUNIOR BEEF HEIFER SHOW
The purpose of the Junior Beef Heifer Show is to provide youth an opportunity to exhibit their heifers in a local
show. The following rules and regulations will be followed and conform to the rules for the Junior Beef Heifer Show
at the North Carolina State Fair. Many of these heifers will be exhibited at the North Carolina State Fair.
RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR JUNIOR BEEF HEIFER SHOW

Open to youth exhibitors 9-19 (as of January 1, 2011) and North Carolina residents.
Exhibitors must have trained and fitted the animals from August 15, 2011. Ownership by exhibitors is not required.
However, in cases where exhibitors do not own the animal, a certificate of training and fitting from the owner is
required at entry time.
3. If an exhibitor has more than one entry per class, another junior exhibitor must show the additional animals. Adults are
not eligible to show.
4. Heifers must be halter broken.
5. All breeds will be shown in one class.
6. Classes will be divided based on age of heifer and will be announced on the day of the show.
7. Heifers will be shown Thursday, September 15th at 7:00 p.m.
8. Registration for JUNIOR BEEF HEIFER show is two weeks in advance of the show. Contact North Carolina
Cooperative Extension at 919-775-5624 for the registration form.
9. A Grand Champion and Reserve Champion heifer will be picked from the class winner.
10. Take-in time, 4:00pm-6:00 pm.
11. If needed, Exhibitors should call Barn Manager, David Thomas, (919-776-7046) to reserve space for their cattle.

All steers must arrive at the fairgrounds from 2:00pm- 4:00pm, Thursday, September 16th.
Open to youth exhibitors 9-19 (as of January 1, 2011) and North Carolina residents.
Steers must be weighed by 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 15th.
Exhibitors must have trained and fitted the steers from August 1, 2011.
Steers must weigh at least 800 pounds and can have two permanent teeth. All other teeth must be baby teeth and in
place.
Steers must be halter broke and dehorned. Unruly animals, which may endanger the safety of the exhibitors, will be
asked to leave the ring.
Each exhibitor is limited to two entries. If animals are in the same class, another junior must show his animal.
Registration for JUNIOR BEEF STEER show is two weeks in advance of the show. Contact North Carolina

Classes will be divided by steer weighs (light, middle and heavy). A Grand and Reserve Champion will be selected
from the class winners and will auction at the end of the cattle show. All other steers will receive market price
(selected by show committee) and consignment add-on bids or may be taken home by the exhibitor.
Steers will be shown Thursday, September 15th immediately following the heifer show.
Steers may be taken home at the end of the cattle show.
If possible, Grand Champion Steer must stay for display through Sunday, September 18th.
If needed, Exhibitors should call barn manager, David Thomas, (919-776-7046) to reserve space for their cattle.
BEEF CATTLE SHOWMANSHIP
The purpose of this event is to demonstrate the proper way to fit and show beef cattle. Each exhibitor is eligible to
enter only one animal in this class and must register. Registration for BEEF CATTLE SHOWMANSHIP is two
weeks in advance of the show.
