All professional development credits are approved by the appropriate academic college and department at the University of North Dakota. In order for a course to be approved for professional development credits, it must be taught by an instructor with a master's degree or higher. One credit is awarded for every 15 hours of direct instructional contact time. At UND, professional development credits cannot be applied toward any degree program. Photography and Lighting for Educators (T&L390/590) UND Department of Teaching & Learning Summer Session 2010, June 2-28, Mon & Wed 3-7 p.m. & Sat. 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Classroom site TBA Co-taught by UND Education Professor Lars Helgeson and photographer Bruce Farnsworth, this four-week summer course provides teachers from grades six through university with valuable photography skills and new ideas to infuse photography and visual awareness into their curriculum. In part one of the course, participants will learn basic photographic skills with point-and-shoot and digital SLR cameras. In part two photography is shown to be a valuable partner across the curriculum, in all subject areas. By visual orientation a teacher can improve student engagement, assessment and student outcomes. They are also unclear about the engineer's role in society or even what an engineer does. Design Squad is one of the few places on TV where kids can learn about engineering. The specific educational goals of the Design Squad television series, web site and outreach events are to: increase students' knowledge of engineering and the design process, improve the public image of engineering, encourage further exploration.
