Western Connecticut Medical Group -Vascular Surgery Service - Earns Vein
Center Accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC)
DANBURY, Connecticut – June 22, 2015 – Western Connecticut Medical
Group (WCMG) announces that its Vascular Surgery Service has earned Vein
Center Accreditation from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC).
WCMG’s Vein Center is the first and only center in the state of Connecticut
and one of 40 in the entire country to achieve IAC Vein Center accreditation,
as well as offering an Accredited Vascular Lab.
Vein Center Accreditation by the IAC certifies that the Western Connecticut
Medical Group, Vascular Surgery has voluntarily undergone a thorough
review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts.
The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that are found to be
providing the high quality patient care, which are in compliance with national
standards. These standards are evaluated through a comprehensive
application process which includes a detailed review of selected patient
procedures.
“This accreditation marks the culmination of the tireless efforts on the part
of our vascular surgery team and serves as an affirmation of our
commitment to maintaining excellence in health care delivery,” said Dahlia
Plummer, M.D., Medical Director, Vein Center.
More than one half of Americans age 50 and older are affected by varicose
veins. Varicose veins occur when the valves in the leg veins no longer
function, causing blood to pool in the legs. In some cases, this condition
progresses to a more serious form of venous disease called chronic venous
insufficiency (CVI).
Whether to relieve symptoms and/or improve appearance, treating varicose
veins can be performed by vein centers that specialize in the evaluation and
management of superficial venous disorders. There are many facets that
contribute to a positive patient outcome; successful treatment of the venous
disorder, the training and experience of the vein specialist performing the
procedure, the type of equipment used and the quality assessment metrics
each facility is required to measure.
IAC accreditation is a “seal of approval” that patients can trust. It is an
indication that the vein center’s processes and procedures have been
carefully evaluated by medical experts specializing in the treatment and
management of superficial venous disorders. When scheduling a vein center
procedure, patients are encouraged to inquire as to the accreditation status
of the facility where their treatment and management will be performed and
can learn more by visiting www.intersocietal.org/vein/main/patients.htm, as
well as WCMG Vein Center http://danbury.tlmlive.com/iac-accreditation/.
About the IAC
IAC accreditation is widely respected within the medical community, as
illustrated by the support of the national medical societies related to
superficial venous disorders, which include physicians, physician assistants,
nurse practitioners, nurses and ultrasound technologists.
