I have used animal models and performed translational research in humans to investigate how transmissible maternal factors may influence the development of allergic immune responses in offspring. More recently, I have begun to develop a basic and translational research program focused on innate immune signaling in the developing intestine as it pertains to the development of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Specifically, I have interest in determining the cellular mechanisms that regulate normal intestinal development, epithelial proliferation and differentiation, and how intestinal bacteria may promote or disrupt these processes resulting in NEC.
