CORESafety® Auditor Certification Procedure SCOPE - This procedure shall apply to all auditors providing certification auditing services for CORESafety®. RESPONSIBILITIES – Providers seeking to be qualified to conduct CORESafety certification audits shall be responsible for meeting the requirements set forth below and for ensuring that all their credentials are current and in conformance with this procedure at the time the auditor conducts a certification audit. The following requirements are for the individual auditors within the auditing companies to be qualified to perform the CORESafety audit. REQUIREMENTS General - Auditors seeking to provide CORESafety certification audits shall, at a minimum, meet the education, training, work and audit experience requirements defined below: 1. Auditors shall own or be under contract or employed by an organization conducting CORESafety certification audits, or an accredited OHSAS 18001 or ISO 14001 auditor 2. Organizations conducting CORESafety audits shall provide participating companies with a list of qualified auditors meeting the training, experience and qualification requirements defined below. 3. Auditors shall provide evidence of at least 16 hours of OH&S management systems auditor training in the three years prior to qualification and 8 hours of indoctrination on the elements of CORESafety. (Training requirements, who can provide, when and where need to be developed) a. Persons with training and qualification as a lead, team or internal auditor in other occupational health and safety management systems such as OHSAS 18001-2007 and who have conducted audits of such systems within the previous three years are not required to undergo the 16 hours or occupational health and safety management system auditor training noted above. 4. Auditors shall have at least 10 years mining-related experience and five years of occupational health and safety management system experience or must be certified to conduct OHSAS 18001 or ISO 14001 audits . a. Work Experience – All auditors shall be required to demonstrate ten (10) years relevant work experience. Relevant work experience shall be considered verifiable experience gained during the last fifteen (15) years and shall be defined as experience that develops skills and understanding in at least two of the areas described below: i. Implementation of CORESafety elements; ii. Work experience gained by actual hands-on role in the mining industry and /or health and safety services; and iii. Health or safety management systems and standards or related auditing procedures, processes and auditing techniques b. Certification as a CSP, CMSP or CIH may account for two years of occupational health and safety experience. 5. Continued Auditor Qualification – All CORESafety auditors must continually meet the auditing requirements set forth below: Auditors shall participate in at least two CORESafety audits every two (2) years; and Auditors shall complete 16 hours of training or continuing professional development every two (2) years; RECORDS Auditors must make available to the participating company, when requested, documents demonstrating compliance with the requirements set forth herein. NMA or its designee reserves the right to monitor the auditor’s qualifications and performance at any stage of the audit process.
