Remember the importance of meeting deadlines for applications for admissions and scholarships: If your application requires information to be provided by your counselor or if a recommendation is needed, be sure to make arrangements at least one week in advance. *APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE IN THE GUIDANCE OFFICE *Missouri Legislative Black Caucus is sponsoring two scholarships: 1. DeVerne Calloway Scholarship-This scholarship is for Missouri citizens who are disadvantaged students pursuing an undergraduate degree. Must have: Minimum 2.5 GPA ACT Score Two Recommendation Letters Narrative Statement Resume 2. Phil B. Curls, Sr. Scholarships-For academically talented students who are considering careers as physicians, nurses, dentists, health researchers, or other health related professionals. Must have: Minimum 2.5 GPA ACT Score Two Recommendation Letters Narrative Statement Resume Deadline: April 24 *Saint Louis Ambassadors-The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize and reward students, who despite personal, family, or social obstacles, have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to excellence in both their school and their community. Eligibility: 2009 graduation senior from a St. Louis high school. Demonstrated commitment to school or community in spite of significant obstacles. ONLY TWO STUDENTS CAN BE SELECTED FROM WEST. Completed applications must be turned into your counselor by Tuesday, March 24th. Deadline: March 24 *Greater St. Louis Art Association Artistic Merit ScholarshipScholarship for seniors who are planning to major in art in the amount of $1,500. Requirements: Completed application with six images of recent art work. Deadline: March 18 QuestBridge-A non-profit program that links bright, motivated low-income students with educational & scholarship opportunities at some of the nation’s best colleges. Applications available at www.questbridge.org. Deadline: March 31 *St. Louis Post Dispatch Scholarship-If you are an African American high school senior you could receive $6,000 per year scholarship to attend an accredited college or university that has a journalism or mass communication program. Deadline: April 3 Missouri Council of the Blind Scholarship-For blind students entering college during the 2009-10 school year. Guidelines and applications may be obtained by going to www.moblind.org. Deadline: May 1 *Northwest Chamber of Commerce Scholarship-Has established scholarships to be awarded to a graduating senior from each of the six high schools served by the Northwest Chamber of Commerce. Interested seniors must complete the scholarship application and return it along with the required additional information to the NWCC office by Friday, April 17, 2009. Eligibility/Requirements: Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 Plan to enroll in a junior college, university or college, business or technical school. Be an active member of a school-sponsored club or organization (i.e. FBLA, DECA, VICA) and/or Have completed at least one (1) credit in the Career and Technical curriculum or will complete one credit at the end of your senior year. Have letters of reference from two adults. Include a copy of your transcript with the application. Complete the application. Deadline: April 17 *Murray State University Balanced Man Scholarship-Scholarships totaling over $5,000. Eligibility: Attending Murray State University Minimum ACT 20 You may access the online application at: http:www.sigepmsu.com. Deadline: May 1 The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis-is accepting applications for the interest-free loan program. Since 1920, their mission has been to provide access to higher education to area students who might not otherwise be able to afford to attend. Eligibility Requirements: Financial need Maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average Strong character Be permanent residents of St. Louis County for at least two years prior to application For more information go to www.sfstl.org Deadline: April 15 2008 Student-View Scholarship Program-is offering $8,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. The program includes: One $3,000 scholarship Two $1,000 scholarships Six $500 Scholarships Simply log on to www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. Deadline: April 19 *Delta Kappa Gamma-Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional society for women educators, will again be awarding grants-in-aid to female students who plan to pursue a college degree preparing for a career in education. The grants in the past have ranged from $1000 - $2000 depending on chapter resources, applicant need and the number of applicants. Deadline: April 27 *The William Pablo Feraldo Memorial Foundation Scholarship Program-Has established a scholarship program for male high school students who plan to pursue post-secondary education at a four-year college or university. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study. Eligibility: Be male high school seniors Enroll in a full-time course of undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university Demonstrate a minimum financial need of $2,000 as calculated by Scholarship America If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. Deadline: March 15 *The Swope Memorial Loan Fund-The purpose of the Fund is to assist worthy and exceptional graduates of public high schools in attaining a higher education at any college or institution they may choose. According to the wishes of the Donor, the student who has applied for aid under this Fund should understand that the amount received should be repaid so that others may similarly benefit and continue their education. The “Exceptional Student” is one who has impressed the Committee with an above average ability, personality, and character, and has demonstrated the ability to benefit from a college experience. Deadline: July 1 School Representatives Many college and school representatives are scheduled to visit Hazelwood West during future weeks. Be sure to check the bulletin board in the Guidance Office and read the bulletin each day so you will know which schools will be visiting West. You will need to obtain a pass from your guidance counselor in order to attend any session. Space is limited for all sessions, be sure to obtain your pass before the day of the scheduled visit.
