My Life as an H2O Molecule: A Narrative in the First Person A Major Assignment for Mr. Peck’s Science Classes Due date: Nov. 24, 2014 Minimum Length: 1,200 words. Can be e-mailed to jerome.peck@lcps.org The narrative should include at least 7 of the items below, item (b) being required: a. How you came to be formed in the first place. b. Your atomic structure of protons, neutrons, and electrons in orbit and the resulting polarity – and its impact on your life – including what it’s like to have adhesive and cohesive properties. c. Three changes of state, e.g. from solid to a liquid, solid to a gas, etc. d. Your attitudes and relationships with other H2O molecules during different phases. e. An encounter with a hydrophobic material or with an element that could displace the hydrogen atoms in your molecule (the end of your H2O life!) f. Your miscibility and immiscibility with other liquids g. What it’s like to be considered a universal solvent h. An incident involving surface tension. i. Your involvement in the life of a plant. j. Your involvement in the life of an animal, such as a human, dog, etc. k. What it is like to find yourself with polluted molecules. l. What it is like to be a part of a bubble. This is one science assignment where spelling, grammar, composition skills, editing, and creativity make a huge difference to your science teacher.
