The Languages B Department Facts and Figures The Languages B department is dedicated to equipping students with language skills that will last a lifetime through an engaging curriculum. The Languages B department prides itself on : o Significantly improved GCSE results o High expectations o Being a fun and vibrant department which aims on securing the best for our students. Our students particularly like learning French or Spanish through practical activities, games and group work which brings languages to life. We work closely with our parents and actively encourage them to be involved in their child’s MFL education. Classrooms and books: Languages B classrooms are well-equipped with interactive whiteboards. Textbooks are available covering both KS3 (French we use Expo and Spanish Mira) KS4 (French Expo and Edexcel Spanish) and Languages B teachers work together to develop other interactive resources suited to all students’ needs. Various ICT packages are used within the department Years 7, 8 and 9: The school follows the International Baccalaureate curriculum. As a result, in year 7, students start learning either French or Spanish and follow a compulsory language study for five years. The development of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme involves creative topic-based learning Years 10 and 11: All pupils follow the WJEC course in Spanish or French with the listening and reading exams being taken at either foundation or higher level. Trips: We currently run 2 trips: Year 9 to Normandy and GCSE trip to Lille Christmas markets. GCSE Results These have increased markedly in recent years with the uptake of languages.
