Financial Aid + Important Reminders
December 3, 2015
Thanks for taking time during the busy month of December
to attend this presentation.
We hope you find the following information helpful:
**All Seniors who plan to attend a 4-year college should have their
applications completed by December 18th. Also, many colleges require
students to send their SAT scores directly from the College Board in
order to be considered for admission and/or scholarships. It is the
responsibility of each senior to check with each college regarding their
respective policy. To send scores to colleges, log into your student
account at www.collegeboard.com ($11.50 fee applies).
**Juniors who took the PSAT in October will receive a score report by
the end of January, 2016 that they will review with their counselor. In
advance of taking the SAT in May and/or June, Juniors should take
advantage of the comprehensive FREE test preparation that is available
now at www.KhanAcademy.org.
**Parents and Seniors (class of 2016) who wish to apply for federally
subsidized loans, grants and/or scholarships may begin the application
process on-line beginning January 1, 2016 by following the directions
found at www.fafsa.gov. Last year’s 2015-2016 FAFSA worksheet is
available to review by entering “worksheet” in the search box at the
FAFSA website.
**Parents and Juniors (class of 2017) will be allowed to submit their
FAFSA form beginning on October 1, 2016. This is a change that
applies to Juniors only and reflects the fact that your current (2015)
income tax return will be used to determine your Financial Aid
eligibility. Junior parents can use the FAFSA forecaster to estimate
what their son or daughter will be eligible to receive at:
https://fafsa.ed.gov/FAFSA/app/f4cForm
**Local Eden scholarships that are available to Seniors will be
distributed at a Senior meeting to held March 16, 2016. We recommend
that parents and students put as much of their current time and effort
as possible into applying for scholarships and grants available through
the colleges they hope to attend. Contact the colleges directly and
explore the following websites to apply for grants online (Juniors will
find these helpful as well):
www.fastweb.com
www.hesc.ny.gov
www.finaid.org
**In addition, the hesc.ny.gov website may be helpful to students who
plan to attend college in NY State and would like to explore NY State
specific scholarships such as the STEM or AIMS grant. Find a list by
clicking on the “Pay” tab and exploring the “Other NYS Scholarships,
Grants & Awards” link.
**Colleges may request additional information on behalf of a student’s
application (grades, teacher recommendations or updated test scores).
Please forward any requests for report card grades or mid-year reports
directly to our Guidance Office.
**College-bound Seniors: take a deep breath, the hardest part of your
year is over! We hope your diligence pays off in the form of acceptance
letters and scholarship awards!
**College-bound Juniors: buckle your seat belts and get ready for the
ride of your life!
Call Mrs. Banks or Mr. Hassett at 992-3601 with any questions.
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to all!
